Hi Guys,

Firstly I should say the search forum button seems to be having problems. I had a scout through the pages but couldn't find an answer to this. Apologies if it's blindingly obvious...

I have just installed GB-PVR and 2x Hauppauge HVR-1100 cards. I realise that only the digital part of these cards will work and that's fine.

I am running latest version (1.0.16) of GB-PVR and when I head into Live TV I get an "Error: Failure playing back file" message (this is from the old interface, the new v2 interface doesn't show a message - I just get a black screen).

I have been through the config and imported a few channels (just the BBC ones to start with).

Here is a bit of my log:

Code:

Any thoughts?

Is more information required?

when you say imported
you did do a scan?
did the scan find stations?

Yes, sorry. Going through the config I added my tuners and scanned for channels. It found about 30 channels in total so I just enabled a few to start with then clicked "Update EPG".

It went through the motions and appeared to update ok... no error messages popped up.

It feels like there is a step I have missed somewhere along the way.

From the log file I see this line:
Code:
2007-09-16 20:30:00.546    VERBOSE    [1]    About to play LiveTV File: C:\TV-1-120070916_2029.mpg     Channel: BBC ONE
I have checked and I have plenty of disk space, the file exists but is 0b in size. Don't know if that will help

if it was me i would remove one card (just while you get the hang of it and what changes what )
as the 2 cards are the same it can get confusing in which card is actually been used
have you set one card to device number 2
maybe itys trying to use a card that is not configured properly normally thats what gives you a 0kb file

ok, so here's what I've done...

1) Physically removed 1 of the cards from the system.
2) Removed all cards from the Capture Sources config section. Added just the single card back into Capture Sources.
3) Re-Scanned for channels, found loads (I was given a nice little preview of the channels during the scan so something is clearly working)
4) Ticked all the boxes to import the channels
5) Started GB-PVR and hit Live TV.
6) Got same damn error message.

Does this help at all? I'm not sure what any of the other config options mean but none sound like the apply to this situation.

are you recordings to dvr-ms or have you installed a seperate mux and set gbpvr to use that instead?

run muxchecker (start, programs, gbpvr) to get details of what mux(s) you have installed. only the top one will be used.

have you installed an mpeg decoder AND specifically selected it in the palyback tab (if not, google for mpv decoder and try that)

MuxChecker says:
Code:
Found: PP MPEG Muxer (aka, CyberLink MPEG Muxer)
FILE: C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerProducer\ppMpgMux.ax
VERSION: 5.0.1214

I just had a fiddle and all of the BDA Multiplexer options (Cyberlink, MS-DVR, SS, TS-Mux, Intervideo) give the same error.

I have set the Audio/Video decoder and the Audio renderer to Cyberlink options.

when you do a recording is the file growing(as in bigger than 0kb)
rather than trying to watch live tv get the recording side going first

i find the live tv not the best way to trouble shoot.
once you have the recording going you can get the live tv part going.
There is a couple of settings on the last tab "encoder pass through" etc that you can change for that
but as ged said you may need to add a mux (changes stream into mpeg file for saving)
and for playback you need a mpeg decoder

what version of windows are you running?

sorry my last post was a bit late

select the mux in the last tab
the mux basically takes the place of an encoder (probably not 100% right but easiest way to explain)

where as the setting you are changing are all playback settings
they will not alter the way its recorded only how it is played back hence the tab playback

I am on XP Pro SP2, all patched up.

I ran through a manual record... all seemed to be working fine except when I checked the file - 0kb.

I've just had a flick around with the settings on the misc tab in config but nothing seems to be helping so far.

How do I go about getting a MPEG Decoder set up?
