Is it possible to set up a second PC in my house that can use GBPVR and use the tuner in my first PC? They would be connected over my home network.

I have searched for instructions and haven't been able to find anything. The Wiki appears to skip right over that topic too. I know there is the check box to "enable as client" in the config, but how exactly do I set this up?

I want to set up an old PC in my bedroom as a client to my main HTPC, and hopefully be able to use the tuner in my HTPC.

Thanks!!

Yes, you should be able to do this. I am at work now, so cannot give you specific instructions, but from memory:

1) You must first create shares on the server:

Recordings directory: MyVideos (ie c:\videos)
GBPVR Directory: gbpvr (ie c:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr)

2) Make sure you can hit these shares from the client machine.

3) Set up the capture sources tab on the client to point to the server machine.

When you run the client, it should use the gbpvr.db3 from the server for the tvguide and the live tv source.

You can also set the directories tab to point to the server (make sure you set up sharepoints), so the Video, Photo and Music libraries can be accessed from the client as well.

Note that you will not be able to watch different channels or record and watch different channel at the same time on the server and client if you only have 1 tv card.

Cool, that makes sense ( I think). I will check it out when I get home.

Yeah, I know I won't be able to watch/record two channels. It is just me and my fiance in the house. We don't have a TV in the bedroom, but I got an old Dell (2.6 ghz P4) and a monitor lying around the house, so I figure, why not set it up to watch TV. She has wanted a little TV in the room for a while, so why not save some money?

Yep, I did the same for the downstairs in my house. There are basically two ways to go:

- Media MVP (wired or wireless depending on location)
or
- Client PC (also wired or wireless)

The client PC route works best with a wireless keyboard or a USB type remote (like Firefly or others...).

Yeah, that was my plan... just pick up a cheap (and compatible) remote. That is all I would really need.

I run a couple of PC clients - screen shot of config page below. (I use the streaming option). Everything else is as defaults.

Do any of you have the live tv function working? I can watch and record shows, but not watch live. Just a black screen.

I have the TV Buffer Share pointed to the main HTPC's buffer as well as the Live TV buffer folder in the Directories Tab. Still a black screen. Would love to get this to work, as I could share my cable box in the living room with my bedroom TV via PVRX2. Everything else works perfectly except Live TV. The host machine is XP and the client (bedroom) is Vista if that matters.

Any other tips/suggestions to try? Thanks.
