I'm using Purevideo as the playback decoder in my config and I can see its tray icon showing up when I watch Live TV.

However when I playback a recording the tray icon doesn't show up and the quality is quite bad. This leads me to believe that GBPVR isn't using that decoder. Can someone tell me how do I make sure it is?

BTW The Nvidia Decoder icon shows up playing back the same recording in Media Player.

I know the nvidia decoder often decides not to show the tray icon, but is still being used. To check, you can look at the list of decoders that were used in the pvrx2.exe-native.log file after playing a recording.

I'm not sure what rules it uses to decide if it'll show the tray icon or not, and its not something in GB-PVR's control. I think I remember someone saying that the tray icon would only appear consistently if they set GB-PVR to use the 'system default' decoder, then used the microsoft DECCHECK utility to make the nvidia decoder the system default.

Setting video playback to System Default did the job. Thanks.

When the tray icon isn't there the quality of the playback is noticeaby worse in full screen mode.

if the icon is not there hardware accel is not working i have found no matter what patches etc are applied
it may still be using the decoder but not to its full potential
this probably doesnt aggree with every bodies veiw but going by my cpu usage which is diplayed on my lcd i can tell cpu usage drops by 20-30% from 50 down to 20 or less
