sub, (or anybody else with the wanted knowledge Wink)

maybe you can shed some light on this. try searching for the following word

SetSuspendState

you'll get only one result, but not the other threads like this here
difference: the only thread returned has that word with leading/trailing spaces, the other thread has the following string: powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState with the leading comma
is there any way to find that string? searching for the string powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState didn't bring back any results either Sad

i've also tried google with site:forums.gbpvr.com but it seems like you've disabled robots?

I'm not sure what vbulletin does in respect to detecting words no separated by spaces, so it may just be special case that isnt being picked up. At the end of the day I didnt write the forum software and have very little control over it's behaviour.

In general the search facility works pretty well for me, but sometimes you might need to think of alternative ways to search. If it was one of your threads you're trying to find, then do an advanced search and put your name into the author field and slap in a likely related word like "suspend", and hopefully something will pop out in the results.

The robot access was disabled a few months again when they were causing some performance problems on the sites.

You might be able to help this by rebuilding the search index in vBulletin, Sub.

It's in the Admin CP - Maintenance / under Update Counters - "Rebuild Search Index".

I've tried a similar search on another vbulletin board and the same happens. It looks like they only parse words with whitespace around to index. tut tut tut.

i say it's a really bad problem and hampers the usefulness of one of the best things we have going here..
i've had so many problems go unresolved, or tried to gather info for documenting, only to find the answer much later on and wondering how it excaped the searches..wastes a lot of time...makes those hard to find things, completely impossible to find...Sad you have to just hope to stumble upon them..

i wonder if there's a way to externally 'help' the indexing, or do it altogether to fix such issues...

i think it would cut way down on the newbie questions, developers, and Sub's time and the rest of us too...Smile

just seems like a fix here would yield a big bang for buck...

To be honest, I dont think its that bad. I've always had pretty decent results with the searches I've done. I know there are small number of scenarios it doesnt index words, but I dont think these are common things people are searching for.

The real problem most people have is coming up with the right keywords to search for...

seems like it's a keyword only search...but that doesn't explain the lack of "powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState" working..unless there's more before it...
[or the comma nix's the whole thing]

i loved the google site search...didn't use it much but it was a lifesaver on occasion..

Could be that we need to make better use of the wiki...
