I'm finding using my new MPV player with GB-PVR to be very impressive but I do have a couple minor issues with it:

First of all the MVP wont boot with the GB-PVR server. I have to run the Hauppauge one and boot the MVP, then shut down the Hauppauge server and run the GB-PVR one. Is this the correct procedure for making the player work with GB-PVR?

Also the player reboots if I try and select the tv guide or the recording menu options. Live tv, net radio, and video library are all fine though. Are these know issues?

Duff,

The startup procedure you describe is the correct one for using the MVP and GBPVR together. The MVPs must start into the Hauppauge software before the GBPVR. You can make the process slightly faster by running both the GBPVR for MVP process and the Hauppauge services at the same time. Once the MVP then starts into the Hauppauge software you can then stop the services, which will fire the MVP straight into GBPVR.

You shouldn't have the 2nd problem you describe. Are any errors (.NET?) generated at the PC end when the MVP restarts? Do the options work when using the GBPVR at the PC end? What version of Hauppauge software are you using?

It usually worth trying out things at the PC end if you hit problems on the MVP, as the MVP just restarts if it hits a problem, but the GBPVR working on the PC will normally throw out a more meaningful error to work with

Thanks for the quick reply,

I see no .NET errors when it happens at the pc. All that happens when I select one of the options is the mvp pauses for about 10 seconds then does a restart back into the gb-pvr menu again. Both these menus work fine at the pc end so no problems with that. I'm using V2 of the hauppauge software which was only downloaded last night so should be the latest.

Nothing seems to actually lock up, its just the mvp doesn't seem to like what's being sent to it.

Hi Duff,

You could try running the latest Beta version of the hauppauge software (2.2 22146), though I doubt that would make a difference. When running GBPVR do you shut down both of the Hauppauge services? You could also rule out some networked related issues, such as temporarily shutting down firewall software if you use any.

Is there anything meanful in the GBPVR.exe.log when it restarts? Sub would probably be able to pick through it to sort the problem out.

Afraid that's all I can think of. Sorry!

I suspect your machine may be taking too long to load the guide information the first time. The MVP disconnects if it doesn't get a response in 10 seconds.

This was pointed out in another recent post, but I havn't had a chance yet to work around the problem. I'll need to come up with some sort of asynchronous message processing loop.

@jeffcora

The Hauppauge software is the latest which I downloaded only last night. I'm not running a firewall on the machine with gb-pvr so it can't be that. I've checked the log as you've suggested but it doesn't contain any new information since gb-pvr was last started. Thanks for the suggestions though, they are always worth a try.

@sub

I'm running it on a itx M10000 board which is only about the same speed as a 650-700MHz duron. It does reset after 10 seconds so it could simply be the fact that its not generating the page fast enough.

sub,
I suspect you are correct about the timeout. I am now using a "full" set of listings for Sky Digital which is in the region of 400 channels and goes out to about 14 days and I get the same effect when using the MVP. I can go straight into LiveTV and any of the plugins but when I select the Guide the MVP disconnects and reconnects.

Cheers

I'll move to an asynchronous message handler in future which will sort the problem out.

PK, if you don't mind me asking, how do you get all your sky listings and for 14 days? I struggled with XMLTV to get just 100 channels for 7 days (without the summary stuff!Wink, so have had to go back to GragEPG off bleb, which works great and is fast but just doesn't have the volume of data I want.

Rob,

It's a long story. I started out using XMLTV and grabbing the listings from tv_grab_uk_rt but that does not cover the channels that interest me and its extremely slow if you want the programme details. So I wrote some tcl code to extract the listings from my TiVo box (as a backup of course) this proved to be much more successful allowing me access to 14 days of listings for all channels and including masses of details some of which is useful today and some of which may be of use in the future. Sadly this is not something I can share with the rest of the community as the licence for the TiVo subscription would preclude such an action.

Regards
PK
