I've been trying to set up a Hauppauge 1600 for about two hours now and after some trouble in GBPVR switched over to the WinTV app and I can't tune NTSC, ATSC, or QAM - I can't get a single channel anywhere. Is the whole card likely defective or is there something I'm doing wrong with this card? I also have a Vbox 150 installed.

silly question, but what source are you plugging in from? have you checked to make sure you get a signal out of that cable? Do you have an antenna for atsc?

I have my cable plugged into the TV plug and an antenna plugged in for the ATSC. I've also switched it up and plugged the cable into the ATSC/QAM plug to see if that found anything. So far I haven't gotten any signal. I know both sources are good because they have been tested with a PVR350 and a Vbox 150 (and my tv).

doesn't sound too promising, I know it's not the greatest advice in the world, but uninstall and reinstall the card (I'm assuming the install went smoothly the first time through)... are you using the drivers from the hauppauge site? here I know qam won't work out of the box with the included cd.

Otherwise, if you do a fresh scan (wintv, menu, suite manager) and it does not find any channels, it might be RMA time.

Did you check if the hardware is showing up properly in Device Manager?

In 20 years of pc's just reseating cards has yielded success many times as well.

If you want QAM then your cable needs to be plugged in the ATSC side. Plugging it into TV will get you analog cable but it should still find channels when using the right scanner.

Definitely get it working in Wintv first then move on to GBPVR

Windows automatically installed the wrong driver for me. I had to manually change it to the right driver. Look on Hauppauge's website and check your model number to make sure you are using the right one.

Thanks for everyone's help so far. I have tried physically removing and re-seating, but that hasn't help - I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. The only thing I haven't tried yet is putting it in another computer to see if I get better results. I'm going to try that when I get the chance (hopefully next week sometime), but I think this one is a dud - oh well - might be RMA time.

Did you wait 10 minutes before re-inserting? When the 1600 locks up you need to remove power long enough for all the filters to discharge. Usually pulling the AC cord for 10 - 15 minutes is enough to get the card to restart.

And it could be a defective card, of course. Hauppauge is pretty good about RMAing cards.
