Hi folks, in any version of PVRX I haven't been able to play any .avi files within my designated video library. Is this normal? if so I guess I'll have to trans code all of them to some other format. Any suggestions for best quality?

.264 has the best quality, generally.

Or you could just work on playing them as they are.

If some other player like Media Player Classic or Zoomplayer or Windows Media Player can play them, then GBPVR should be able to play them. Some players like VLC are standalone so won't use their codecs/decoders with GBPVR. When in doubt, install CCCP codec pack and GBPVR should play pretty much everything. That's about all I have installed and GBPVR was playing some .mkv files yesterday.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

.avi is not a format, it is a container for various formats. If you have the approprirate Direct Show codec installed it should play, once the codec is installed it will play without transcoding.

Can you play these same files in Windows Media Player?

As mvallevand said, you most likely dont have an appropriate directshow decoder installed.

The files play in wmp 11, Gom player and the divx player.

I grabbed GSpot and it told me that the codecs required ARE installed, Codec DX50 Name DivX 5.0.3 and the test file is an MPEG-4.

<ins><b><u>Update</u></b></ins>

GSpot tells me that there is a problem with the Gb-PVR Parser 'DSH MPEG1System GB-PVR Parser {AE38F054-BC89-40E7-AAF1-255E2EC29D8E} 0x00200000 ** File Missing:
'
Don't know if that is related?

Reproduce the problem in GB-PVR, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

It will be somehow related to the decoders though. GB-PVR doesnt do any of the playback of avi files itself, it just asked directshow to do it, which in turn looks for a compatible set of decoders it can use for playing the file.

Interesting - I also had problems playing DivX files in GBPVR.
I have DivX decoder version 5.02 installed.
I suspected this version of the decoder to be the problem - maybe too old.
Anyway got round the issue by using 'Nic's FourCC changer' to change the problem files to XviD - which works perfectly.
Most files downloaded are XviD so not a big problem for me...

Sorry, you'll need to set the logging level back to debug and repost the logs. Otherwise there isnt enough useful diagnostic info in the logs.

I have absolutely no problems with playback of DivX code Videofiles. But i haven't DivX installed. I use only Koepi's XviD built for playing back these Videofiles. Works perfect withing GB-PVR.

Perhaps you have conflicts with some of your decoders?
You like nPVR? Then please help pay the bills, and keep the project alive!
