Hi,

I'm having a problem that is probably related to a codec issue, and isn't strictly a GBPVR issue.

I am using a 2 minute clip of a movie in a class I am teaching soon. I used the Video ReDo (free) to extract the clip, and saved it as an .mpg. It plays fine on my PC with GBPVR installed, (via Power DVD or through GBPVR's video library). I am not using any plug ins, and v1.0.16.

When I attempted to play it on the classroom computer (it has no DVD drive installed), it failed, and said it was missing codecs.

I tried then to transcode the .mpg into an .avi. It created a file that plays audio but no video, on either computer.

I dont know enough about codecs and what is happening behind the scenes to resolve this. Can anyone provide some guidance?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The classroom PC is probably missing the MPEG codec as one doesn't come with Windows XP. I think there is a free MPEG codec available, try a forum/google search.

If it's ok to install software on the classroom PC you could (as an alternative to the above) install VLC player and use that to play the movie file. It uses inbuilt codecs and so can play almost anything "out of the box".

The VLC player is IMHO one of the best video players out there. I highly recommend it.
