[EDIT] Ignore the below - after a night of sleep, some judicious filter uninstalling, some system audio changes and a couple of reboots, the audio appears to now work. Now for the GB-PVR install...
Quote:Finally got around to replacing my current gb-pvr box with something newer/better (prompted by a computer-frying power surge) and am changing the box from 2000 to XP while I'm at it.
I'd forgotten just what a PITA it is to set up a media computer - my first try where I installed everything I thought necessary resulted in a crashing GB-PVR config and no media files playing correctly.
Attempt two has been taken more slowly, and I am trying to get basic file playing sorted first before installing gbpvr. After several hours of effort, g-spot use and selective uninstalling, I finally have a correctly working mpg video codec, and now am trying to sort out the SPDIF audio.
I have got as far as figuring out that I need to change the audio renderer in graphedit from "Default DirectSound device" to being the filter "DirectSound: Realtek HD Audio output" (and not the filter "Realtek HD Audio output" which is another option and appears to be the one listed in the dxdiag program).
So after four or five hours I am almost at the stage where I can both see and hear existing recordings - I'm just not sure what to do next. Ideally I suppose I would like to change the default DirectSound device, but am not sure how. Standard FilterManager merit settings don't appear to apply to Audio Renderers, and I am loath to simply unregister existing renderers willy-nilly.
Or maybe I can use the graphedit filters to do the job for me? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
cheers,
tieke
