I have installed and running I-xmltv through the UpdateEPG.bat file
I have noticed that the guide does not update in the gbpvr program.
I can udate it if I go into config/Capture Sources/Recorder Plugin/Edit
and click on the update epg button. This opens a box stating that it is
reading the xmltv file. Is there a command line switch I could use to activate that particular program?

what is in your updateepg.bat?

And also, what is your EPG source set as under the capture devices area in config?

The updateepg.bat contains one line "call c:\i-xmltv\i-xmltv.bat"
EPG source is set to XMLTV plugin pointing to c:\i-xmltv\TVGuide.xml

you can rename updateepg.bat to PostUpdateEpg.bat. I let GBPVR wakes up and updates the tvguide.xml from previous day.

I added the line for the bat file to the PostUpdate Epg.bat and had the same problem.
I ran the i-xmltv.bat manually. It emptied the EPG. I then looked at the i-xmltv.bat file.
I noticed a switch in the begining of the file that was set to 1 which emptied the EPG.
I changed it to 0 to see if that helped. I ran it again manually. It did not empty the EPG.
Now I will see if it keeps it up to date. I will run it again fron the UpdateEPG.bat file.
Will let you know if that was the problem.

if you use PostUpdateEGP.bat then you don't need UpdateEPG.bat

you probably miss a command line "c:\progra~1\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvr.exe -OnlyUpdateEPG" in your UpdateEPG.bat, but in my test I was not able to test it sussessfully so I have to settle with PostUpdateEPG.bat.

my sample PostUpdateEPG.bat where I use dialup to get EPG.

You don't need the line with "onlyupdateepg", I think what's going wrong is:
UpdateEpg.bat is run, when it's finished gbpvr tries to update the epg from the xml-file generated by the updateepg.bat.
If you call a batchfile from a batchfile, gbpvr may think the updating/generating of the epg-xml file is finished while it is still running.
I hope you get what I mean.
