Runing latest version of GB-PVR with xp-pro sp2 on both client and server.
Both machines have strong hardware.
The network in my house is wireless but:
1. I can play Hd content - 720p smoothly through the network.
2. Recorded shows are played smoothly with mpc/wmp by accessing their folder directly.

Stuttering occurs when i try to watch the recorded shows with GB-PVR.
Is playing them through GB-PVR demands more bandwidth than with regular players, or should i change something in my config?

Yes it does.

I'd try it temporarily with a long cable to prove that is the cause though.

I didn't get it the first time, could you please repeat that to me, does GB-PVR demands a wider bandwidth ?

Sorry, typo - fixed above. GB-PVR does require a significant amount of bandwidth when using a client PC.

try a different demuxer too...some work much better over net than others..
has to be set in config manually but not too hard..
it made a big difference for me with HD files..
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

What is the demuxer? is it one of the options in the config regarding video decoder or video rendere, or should I look for this option somewhere else?

also if you have windows firewall try turning it off
you may need to add gbpvr.exe and pvrx2.exe etc to the allow list

I performed all the testing when both firewalls were off
