Considerations when buying HDTV for GB-PVR

I intend to purchase a new hi-def TV soon, either plasma or LCD. Screen size will be around 40".

I have a dedicated HTPC running GB-PVR with a ATI Radeon 9550 (DVI output) which I want to connect to the new TV.

I live in Australia, so I want PAL resolutions at 50Hz.

So my questions are:

1. What specifications such as screen resolution and input connections do I need to look for when shopping for the TV?
   
2. Can anyone recommend a TV (sub $2000AU) to be used for this purpose?
   

I am considering using the DVI output of my ATI card combined with a DVI to HDMI adapter/cable but I expect there could be video card driver issues or hardware restrictions of the TV that prevent high quality output from PC to TV.

I am also willing to purchase the right video card for the job to get the best result.
