I have a funny problem here. I am transcoding letterboxed recordings so that they are only cropped and not scaled (they still need to be scaled from the player so that they are displayed with the right aspect ratio). See here for a few seconds of such a transcoded recording.

I am using a slightly changed version of stattik's script to do this and everything plays well on the recording machine. The transcoded avis are played as recordings in the recordings tab of GBPVR and PVRX2.

On my network client this is not working, the recordings are displayed, but after hitting the play button the program just goes back to the previous screen. (Find the zipped log directory attached.) The client is set to file sharing mode.

This only happens with my letterboxed avis, my transcoded 4:3 avis play well on the network machine. Is this just a missing something on my client, or something else?

Volker

EDIT: I forgot to mention, if I copy the letterboxed avi to the video library directory of the client, it plays in GBPVR, but the soft aspect ratio is not corrected.

EDIT2: It also plays in the video library directory from PVRX2 and the aspect ratio is correct.

maybe after its transcoded your database hasnt updated so the client cant find the file
does it play back on the server machine fine if you select from the recording menu

Yes, all of them (letterboxed avis) play fine on the server in the recordings tab, and none plays on the client in the reccordings tab.

If you copy one to the client, does it play correctly? (ie take client/server out of the mix)

Yes, it does. I can also just point the video library directory to the network share with the recordings. That also plays OK. Just not from the recordings menu.

I dont know, that makes no sense to me. The video library and recordings screen share the functionality for playing video files so should be exactly the same given the same file (playing from client in file mode is exactly the same as playing from a network share).

OK, and now it gets even weirder. I installed GBPVR on another notebook and could reproduce the problem, my letterbox avis fail. Good, (actually bad) it's reproducible.

Nothing extra weird so far, next thing was I saved one of the avis that played in the recordings directory to a different name and put my demo letterbox avi (see 1st post) with its name changed to the removed recording avi. Now this still played from the recordings menu from the client - it seems not really be related to the encoding settings.

To confirm this I copied/renamed one of the full length letterbox avis in the place of the the working avi. Yes, it played on the client. What is wrong here? Why is this depending on the entry in the recordings menu?

And why do all of them play on the server?

I guess I found something. The web client cannot play recordings where the drive letter is lower case. Have a look at my attached recording-dump.xml.txt.

Now if there would be an easy way to edit the file names stored in the database, but EpisodeTweaker does not allow this.
