I just threw an AMD 3800+ Dual core into my machine hoping to see a slight improvement over the single core 3000+.

Unfortunately it was just the opposite. SD shows begin stuttering both video and sound about 10 seconds into either a recorded show or Live TV. Forget HD, sound and video sucks from the moment it starts.

I tried a variety of codecs and muxes, no luck.

I check the config and set ForceSingleProcessorAffinity to true, no luck.

I finally manually set processor affinity via Task Manager and... Viola!! Both SD and HD run smooth as silk.

It seems that ForceSingleProcessorAffinity does not do anything for me. Is this setting broke in 1.1.5?

Is there anyway to make the processor affinity stick between runs of the program?

Should I also set affinity for the Recording task?

Found a tool to manage affinity here: http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/05/28/g...sing_buck/

Seems to work perfectly for my needs. For those of you folks with dual-core and experiencing choppy video and/or audio, try setting affinity, it may just solve your problems...

Yeah I find the same (although it does not seem to make a difference on my machine). There is a small command line utility that can do the same without having a window open as the THG one.

I'm running dual core and affinity set with an Intel C2D with no problem. Perhaps you need to apply an XP patch or apply the fix for the AMD processor

This is what I was going to suggest. You should probably apply these patches even though you've worked around the affinity issue.

I had tried the AMD fix, it had no effect on my problems. Somehow I missed the XP patch. That did it, I applied, removed the affinity and both SD and HD play back perfectly! Thanks for the input.

This ForceSingleProcessorAffinity setting isnt used in PVRX2.exe. These days the dual core processors seem to work pretty well with Directshow so I didnt see the need for it.

I'm glad you found the appropriate patch and got it working.

I don't get it. How exactly is affinity set using the program that JavaWiz is using? Do you just set affinity to PVRX2?

Do you still need to run the utility if the XP Patch is installed?

The reason I'm asking is because I have and audio stutering issue when watching livetv.

I have an AMD X2 4600+. Where can I find the AMD Patch, or is this the same as the AMD driver?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The program I used somehow caches my preferred affinity settings and applies them each time the program runs. Otherwise, you'd have to manually apply the settings (via TaskManager) each time the program started up.

Note, with the MS patch, I no longer need to set affinity.

The AMD patch you want is the "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer". This may be useful for gaming, but I did not see any difference for PVRX2, the MS patch seemed to do the trick for me.
