If I launch PVRX2 in a window, the window aspect ratio is 16:9, even if it is set to 4:3 in config. F7 cycles me through the various aspect ratio settings, but the PVRX2 windows stays the same.

GBPVR does not lock the ratio. You can change the window size and shape to anything you want.

Am I missing something obvious?

The width/height of the window is constrained to the same ratio as your desktop resolution. The TV Shape setting just tells it how to handle the aspect ratio within that window, but doesnt not affect the shape of the window itself.

In my humble opinion, the window should change to match the aspect ratio of the actual video. Is there no way to do that, or change it to 4:3 somehow?

I misunderstood your issue. That dll is the fix for another issue with aspect ratio. It will not do what you want.

Sorry, thats just not the way its designed to work. I'm happy with the current way it does window mode.

So you don't mind the black bars down the sides when playing back a 4:3 video in a window? GBPVR is the only program of its type that works well, but the fact that a video window has to be 16:9 just because my monitor is 16:9 is not logical or rational. To me, having the window's aspect ratio match the aspect ratio of the video being played is the obvious way to do it. The way it works now smacks of unpolished programming.

With all respect, you may have seen other apps behaving like this, but it does not mean it is correct... Consider your widescreen TV set - would you expect it to physically change shape when you watch a 4:3 programme?
A good TV set will alllow you to specify how a 4:3 programme will map to a 16:9 screen (LetterBox, Fill, etc) - GBPVR works in the same way (try F7 key)
