Need some help in configuration:

Seems to have basics working but...

1. On PC screen, LiveTV looks good. When I move the PVRX2 window to the TV (output to TV via S-video; dual display with different resolutions and refresh on a 6800GS card), fast pictures (like a hockey game), it seems to miss some frames...not quite jerky but definitely hard to watch.
Fixes?

Note that if I leave PVRX2 on the PC screen and set NVIDIA drivers to "when I watch video content ....also show it full screen" setting which shows PVRX2 on PC while full-screen output is on TV, it is smooth. Jerky only when watching PVRX2 application which has been dragged to the "display 2" TV.

Using NVIDIA mpeg codecs.

___EDIT

After some more playing, if I put PVRX2 application on TV display, and enable the full screen video option, this gives me GUI on TV but the video is still choppy. Is there a way to get GUI on TV, and have video/Live TV play smoothly? Or I am crazy to try to avoid having dedicated PC for PVR software?

I have already noticed that if the application is not the "active" window on the PC, the remote gets ignored which worries me in terms of multi-functional use....

Do I have displays and windows set-up to optimium? What is best config? I would like PVRX2 running and GUI seen only on TV and would like smooth video on TV....

2. Sound. I am using a "multi-purpose" PC for output to the TV but also want to be able to use PC for other things. Right now, I "Y" the sound to PC speakers and TV inputs. Ideally, I would like to have GV-PVR running in background (minimized to tray) and displayed on TV and only the sound from GB-PVR window going to the TV (not PC). While at the same time, PC sound going to PC speakers...

How? Would two sound cards work? Will windows let me have two sound cards? How to I set GBPVR and windows for this config? (I have SB PCI card and on-board sound so this might work?)

3. On TV, I see the top blue "windows" task bar on PVRX2 window....how can I hide this? (This is when PVRX2 is run as window displayed only on TV display....which I need to see GUI on TV versus PC. See comments above when I try to run in this mode and get choppy video.

4. How do I set recording quality? I see I can change pre-configured settings in the config utility, but what setting is PVRX2 using by default?

Thanks.

set the tv to 'primary' monitor, if it moves icons and taskbar to it then just drag back, they'll stay after...
this will enable hardware accell on the tv...
this makes for some odd behavior, dialogs will pop up on tv by default..tho i think there's a place in the nvidia panel to correct this..
but tv will be nice and smooth...Smile

2.sound can be redirected if you have another sound card, and set it as the default renderer in config, and set other card to windows default device in control panel...so windows default sound card is diferent from card set in gbpvr config.exe... [haven't tried but that's the way it should work] you can have multiple sound and video cards with winblows..
the sb + built in should work fine..just enable both and install drivers..

3. you need to set in config first page, 'run full screen' as you're not actually, if you see the title bar...quick fix is to hit alt-enter to maximize...Big Grin

4.defualt recording profile is 'medium' Smile

PBS:

The problem with making TV default desktop is that I will loss acceleration on the PC. As I said, dual purpose so games must still play on PC. (At least, I assume this will be the case as you imply acceleration on occurs on main display in dual display mode)

To give more details:

If set dual display for "span".
1. If I move PVRX2 to TV, and play live TV, I get choppy.
2. If I leave PVRX2 on PC, and set to play back video full screen on TV (NVidia has this settingon control panel), then it works. However, I can not see the PVR GUI on the TV...

If I set displays to "clone"
1. I can see GUI and videos on TV no problem (and smooth video) but I get the windows task bar and windows title bar. I would like to hide these.

I can live with having to start up PVRX2 on the PC when I want to see it on the TV but had originally thought I could config such that PVRX2 was running minimized to taskbar and always on the TV and just switch video inputs when I wanted to use. The choppy video seems to prevent this option unless anyone can suggest config to get around it.

Thanks for link stefan, I will read tonight.

I suspect that you only get video acceleration/onboard decoding on one screen at a time. You can pick which screen by designating the primary. If you have both showing the same information, then the acceleration only needs to happen once, even though it is showing on two different screens with two different resolutions.

You need to configure the application to start it on the correct monitor otherwise you lose DirectX acceleration features by moving it to the second monitor.

Thanks sub...that did it. I set-up an "applicaion" rule in Nvidia desktop manager and forced it to TV and that worked.

Of course, now the PC monitor gets some artifacts on the far side...

Having played some more I think I will go with "clone" option. I lose the true "dual purpose" option for the PC; when using the PVR features, kids won't be able to play on PC but when PVR is not being used, they will get the PC. Dual purpose but just not simultaneous dual purpose.

Two more config question.

In "clone" mode, when I play back a recording via PVRX2, I get it on both PC and TV. When I play it back in Windows Media PLayer, I see it on PC but not TV. (Using WinXP, nvidia codecs).

I am using remote/blaster that came with PVR-150.
I seem to have to run the WinTV remote app (remote in sys tray) to get things to go through to PVRX2.

Question: When I hit the "go" button, it starts up WinTV2000. Anyway to kill that command but still have PVRX2 get all the remote signals?
