TV Tuner config problem

HI, I just downloaded GBPVR and from what i've seen it looks awesome!

I have a problem though. When i went to add a capture source, I couldnt find my TV tuner in the list, and when i followed the procedure in the wiki for adding a card to the .ini files, it pretty much just doesnt work.

I have a WinTV USB2 tv tuner - NOT a WinTV PVR USB2 - just the plain old analoge USB2 tuner.

I noticed all the cards being listed as supported in the wiki are all "PVR" type cards - will the WinTV USB2 TV tuner work with GBPVR? If so, how?

I don't think that tuner has a hardware encoder so it most likely will not work. You can try running filtercheck.exe and post the resulting filtercheck.log and I (or someone who beats me to it) will write a config entry for it that you can try.

ok, ran filtercheck.exe and got the following output: (ignore anything with Avermedia. I'm using a laptop with a built in Avermedia M115 TV tuner. I'm tyring to get the USB2 tv tuner working for other reasons)

You won't be able to use it. There is no encoder (no entry in the AM_KSCATEGORY_ENCODER category).

Damn! thats what I was figuring. after I looked at the info from that log, some of the .ini file stuff started making sense and when i didnt see en encoder for WinTV i was all like "hummm....thats probabaly not good." heh

Another question, If i bought a WinTV PVR USB2 MCE bundle (it looks like its winTV PVR USB2 bundled with IR blaster hardware) GBPVR would both be compatible with it and be able to use the IR hardware to change channels on my cable set-top box right?

My current options appear to be either pay $70.00 for Beyond TV from Snapstream (They are the only software ive found that actually supports this blasted WinTV USB2 TV tuner - this thing isnt compatible with ANYTHING!!sheesh!) OR I could just up and shell out for a new USB TV tuner. (this is more expensive, but getting a TV tuner that is more compatible with more things is just plain attractive right now.)

oh! another question...could you write a config entry for the avermedia tuner? i tried setting it up in GBPVR, and while it found it as Avermedia A16AR (or Avermedia A161A) when i checked the "Only show devices detected on this machine" checkbox, it tells me no channels are set up when I try live TV in GBPVR. I dunno maybe i just didnt set the source up right?

Yes. That would work. You may need to download the IR stuff from MS but that's easy enough.

For the digital side of this device, the A161A and A161AR entries should work. You will need to map the digital channels though by clicking "Map digital channels to EPG channels" in the capture source config.

You can try this for the analog side of the AverMedia. If it doesn't work, post your logs after trying to tune the device on it.

ok, that seems to work for the analog side of the avemedia. When I checked the "only show devices found on this machine" checkbox, it came up with the avermedia BDA card with no probs. went and made a quick account with CT TV listings just so i could populate the EPG, then launched GB-PVR. When i clicked on LiveTV i got the following error message:

"Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." huh?

interestingly enough, the "map digital channels to EPG channels is grey out... if that means anything. (oh yeah, i also set the channel changer to the MCE2005 IR blaster plugin, becuase media center comes preinstalled on the system so i had the hardware handy.)
