Youtube plugin problems

Even though I have teh Youtube plugin enabled, it does not show at all on my MediaMVP. It does show on the GBPVR.exe when I run it on my PC - although it always complains it cannot connect to the Youtube servers.
Any tips? Thanks.

The youtube plugin is pretty much dead. They changed the youtube website a few times and broke the plugin each time. I decided against chasing a moving target and didnt bother rewriting this functionality when I did the big user interface rewrite (PVRX2.exe).

My guess is that now with AppleTV supporting YouTube, they probably need to maintain it compatible for a while?

I'm sure youtube have provided Apple a nice unchanging API for accessing the videos rather that having to scrape the website like this plugin used to. I'd have no idea what that API is or how it is accessed though.

Sorry, I have no plans to restart work on the youtube plugin. Maybe some other developer will create a plugin like this in future though.
That API also misses the all important hidden URL to the flv files, so you'd still need to scrape the pages to find it. This URL is really just intended for data about videos and their relationships, it doesnt do the actual video. It does find the ID of the video which can be used to embedded the video in your web pages using the youtube embedded player, but thats not the same thing - we need the actual video filename so that it can be download. |
