Hi all,

I've read a few threads regarding mapping to network drives and getting this to work.

I have my XP box in my room, The MVP is downstairs by the TV and then also a Fileserver with all my videos on the network.

My videos are sorted in this manner:

//fileserver/Media/Movies
//fileserver/Media/Series/SeriesA/Season1
//fileserver/Media/Series/SeriesA/Season2
//fileserver/Media/Series/SeriesB
etc...

I can add //fileserver/Media to my Video Library Directories and play any video inside this root folder. However navigating to Movies or Series I do not see any files and get "no video files" error.

Is there a way to resolve this? if not is there a way to update the Video Library Directories using a batch process. I would like to run through all the folders in the Series folder periodically and add them to the Video Library Directory automatically.

otherwise its a case of not having any "season" folders and updating the directory manually with each Series.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if I'm asking the obvious but have you checked the sharing permissions on all the child folders and ownership of the MVP server processes?

You have to run the gbpvrrecordingservice under a useraccount (with network access), that makes the mvpserver proces run under that account too. There is a way to run the recservice under a local system account and yet have network access. There were a few threads on that some time ago. You should be able to find with a forum search.

Hi Thanks for the replies. Not sure how I missed this in my initial search on the forum. Making the service run under my username and using UNC paths work a treat!! Does exactly what I want it to do now Big Grin

Hi Cougar,
I have gone through this exact problem myself and have tried both the local system account as well as the user account. They both will work, however I have gone back to the system account, and I'll explain why.

If you have the Gbpvr recording service run under a user account, this quickly solves the network drive access problem (assuming that the user account has the necessary network access), but it also introduces anther problem that may not be immediately apparent. While the local system account can be set to interact with the desktop, the user account cannot. If you are only running Gbpvr without any plugins, this is probably OK. But if you are using any plugins that display systray icons, like MVPTrayIcon for example, these will not be able to display if you are running the service under a user account.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution to this problem. On the system that has the sharepoint for your video files, simply add the computer hosting your MVP (i.e. the one running GBPVR) to the Security tab of the properties for the shared folder. This can be done by adding the computer name and a $ to the list of users, and grant read and write access to this "user". So if your Gbpvr computer is named DVR, simply add DVR$ to the security tab and grant it the necessary access rights.

This will allow the recording service to continue to run under the local system account, the MVP will be able to get access to all of your video files, and all of your plugins will work as expected.

Hope this helps!Smile
