I have just started using GBPVR and I love it. However, I am having difficulty with playing mp4 files.

At first, GBPVR did nothing when I selected the files from the video library so I started testing in wmp. I got sound but no video. Then I installed ffdshow and the movies started playing fine in wmp. However in GBPVR, I see a picture but no sound. This seems to be opposite of most of the posts I've seen (most get sound but no video).

I downloaded GraphEdit and sure enough, when I open an mp4 file, I get a message indicating that some streams are in an unsupported format. The following image is what graphedit shows for mp4 files:

I'm not sure why it uses the nero mp4 splitter and I've tried many combinations of splitters and audio decoders, but there are too many possible combinations and I hope someone out there can point me in the right direction.

FYI: the mp4 files were originally created to run on my psp so they were ripped in H.264 with AAC sound.

GBPVR has all playback settings set at "system default" and all other features (TV and recorded playback) all work fine.

Thanks in advance

This isnt really a GB-PVR problem, but rather a problem with the directshow filters you have installed. GB-PVR is going to get the same result as you get in GraphEdit. If get the right combination of decoders etc installed, then hopefully you'll get it working.

You might need to try installing the Haali splitter. If that does help, you might need to look at uninstalling that Nero MP4 Splitter.

I get the same message about the streams / different format etc. too. I see a black screen. I have PDVD7 installed, but how do I actually "uninstall" JUST the NERO splitter? I would like to keep Nero Express for DVD copies as I actually like it.

btw it's an x264 file and thus I have the same query as BigMoose here http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...stcount=12

i.e.

Quote:
Sorry if I'm being thick, but x264 is a derivative of h264? The Cyberlink codecs support H264 but dont play my x264 mkv files. That's likely to be because they break some h264 rules? (I've installed the splitter and get sound but a blank screen) So I can install CoreAVC and it'll play these files, but being an h264 codec if I set it to be the default the system will never use the cyberlink one for genuine h264 files... Thus I dont get HW Acel on any real h264 stuff which is bad...

Is there a way to use the CoreAVC codec on these x264 files only and the Cyberlink one on other h264 stuff?

Use a directshow filter manager like the one from http://www.softella.com. Run it up, select the nero splitter, and hit the unregister button.

x264 is a free implementation of the h264 standard.

Most h.264 decoders, including the Cyberlink ones, and the hardware accelerators available from nvidia and ATI, focus on the core set of H.264 features that are used in the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray standards (level 4.1). Some x264 encoded files contain features from 5.1 etc, which are not supported by these decoders or hardware accelerating video cards. (can result in a nice green screen on ATI cards etc)

Not that I know of.

Thanks. The softella.com one didn't delete it, but Filmerit did. It kept coming back though, so I renamed the .ax file to .old on disk and the Graph now shows PDVD7 Splitter. Doesn't play in PDVD (no AAC) nor in WMP11, but plays fine in VLC?

Try installing the 'haali splitter'. Thats what my machine uses when I play .mp4 files.

It was installed with the CoreAVC Decoder I just bought to get x264 Video, after which I got video, but no audio. Turned out what was missing for audio was CoreAAC (or other AAC Decoder). All working now.

Ta!

What finally worked for me was installing VistaCodec V461. I don't remember where I ended up finding it, but since I am running Windows Vista, it seemed like it might apply to me.

As soon as I installed this codec, all MP4s that I have tried have worked correctly in GBPVR (including h.264 MP4s).

FYI - I did not remove the Nero Slitter or anything - just installed this codec
