Having trouble transcoding mpeg files to divx xvid or wmv. Whenever I convert to either format the resulting file is corupt. I can play them ok but the video is all over the place, by which I mean it plays a few frames, pauses the jumps to where it should be. The audio is fine and in sync with the few frames it does play. I have tried messing the encoder options on divx an xvid but without any sucess.

Has anyone come across a similar problem?

Are those mpg's recorded with a hauppauge 150, if so they may suffer from the timestamp bug. If you do a forum search you'll find a lot of info on how to cure it.

Thanks Hans but no, I run two DVB-T cards, a Pinnacle PCTV and a PEAK Digital TV Hybrid.
After looking through the timestamp issue I don't think this is the problem. The original mpeg files created are fine and play without any issue. The problem is with the converted xvid, divx or wmv files.

I think the problem lies with ffmpeg as it affects all transcodes.

I've had all sorts of problems with ffmpeg, mostly ausio sync problems.

I ended up using mencoder instead which works brilliantly Smile
