The End of GBPVR?

I was getting GBPVR to the point of where I liked it. Was making plans for the Nspec router streaming - then - Verizon FIOS and Digital TV.

I see no way to make this work. I need some flavor digital to analog STB, and that's always tuned to channel3, and feeds the analog tuner of my Hauppague 1600. I can't remotely schedule TV programs any longer, except the last channel on the STB. Lest, the clean QAM channels which feed the digital tuner.

Am I missing something? Is there anyway to effectively continue using GBPVR with these rigid digital TV offerings?

There are lots of people using a STB with GBPVR. You will need some kind of IR blaster to have gbpvr send an IR signal to your box to change the channel. Then you use either the coax output of the box, or better yet the Svid or composite output to input the signal to your 1600 card. All of this is built into GBPVR. Search the forums and the WIKI for "blaster" and you will find a host of options. It really is easy to do. I hope this answers your question.

LiveTV isn't what I used GBPVR for.

I loved the remote web interface, the ability to manage my recordings from work for example. For example, if I have a daily recording of Colbert on Comedy Central, well, I can't use the TVGuide, set this to record CC, at all, right? The Channel is always channel3 from the STBox? The StBox itself has to be left on the right channel to get it to record.

Hopefully I'm explaining myself correctly. If not, please let me know.

If I'm missing something, and all this is possible, then how?

Looks to me like my whole resistance movement to Tivo has finally failed me.

Maybe this will help?...

In the past your software (GB-PVR) told the tuner on your Hauppague what to tune to & when. Now you need your software (again I assume GB-PVR) to reach accross the room or whatever & tune the D/A STB for you... That's what an IR blaster does -- it's the business end of your remote attached to & controlled by your PC, so your PC basically manages a remote control that changes channels on your stb.

Okay, so let me get this straight.

If I setup GBPVR to auto record digital channel 110 every Tuesday at 10am, and I've left the STB on channel 898 Monday evening, and didn't intervene further, come 10am Tues, GBPVR is gonna fire a signal to the STB to have it select channel 110, and record?

That is wonderful. I'm still a little in disbelief, but I really didn't want to start all the experimentation over again since it seemed to me I was being forced to use Tivo.

You can also have multiple systems listed in your TV guide. I haven't done this myself, but you can have some channels from the 'external' stb listed in your TV guide along with the over-the-air (OTA) channels from your digital antennae.

Haven't done it myself, but many here have.

Only if you have the necessary hardware (an IR blaster) and have it set up correctly in GB-PVR. It doesn't happen by magic. As someone else said, search the forums and wiki for 'blaster' and you'll find what you need.

I also use a ir-blaster to control my Motorola stb. First check to see if your Hauppauge 1600 come with a irblaster. If it does see can the irblaster control your stb. I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 and my ir-blaster could not control my Motorola DCH6200 stb. I had to buy me a usb-uirt to control my stb. The usb-uirt, along with certain software such as girder, hip, or gbpvr, can learns your stb remote control. Once usb-uirt learn your remote control then it can be used to control your stb.
