Hi Forum,

I tried to install latest version as a client on a vista machine.
I ran the install as an administrator and followed the directions, but all it came up with everytime is a 1725 error. Something about a program necessary for the installation not being present. Then it shuts down the install.

I have successfully run 1.1.5 on it and ended up going back to that version. The version that is running on as the server is a 1.1.5.

Any idea's what the program is that is missing or how I can resolve the issue?

Any help would be appreciated

I found that I had to completely turn off UAC for it to install in vista.

Unfortunately one can't just right click the installer and select "Run as administrator", as the installer is in MSI format, which annoyingly does not allow that. Sad

Sub, is there any chance of making the installer a plain executable, rather than as an MSI package?

I was logged on as the administrator. I however said the error was a 1725. It actually is a 1721. The error appears at the end of the install. The last 2 seconds to be exact. Had the same problem with my xp machine that is the server side of the GBPVR. I completely uninstalled gbpvr and did a clean install and it worked, Vista however was not as kind. Trying to setup vista as a client machine so far isn't working.

Could a person run the program as a XP machine through vista or is there a better way?

I look forward to your response,

Have you installed vc_redist? (see here)

Are you logged in as admin? Edit: Just seen you are

Also some users seem to have had some joy using "GBPVR10209.msi /passive" to install

I'm no expert on this - just seen what others have been posting...

You may be logged into an administrator account (as I am), but some programs (like GB-PVR) require even further elevation to install properly. Most installers you can do by right-clicking the installer and selecting "run as administrator", however this method does not seem to work with MSI packages, which is what the GV-PVR installer comes as.

To get around this, go Start, type in User Accounts and press enter. Click on the "Turn User Account Control on or off". Uncheck the box. The computer will restart. Once restarted, GB-PVR should install correctly. Once installed, you may turn UAC back on if you wish (will require another restart).

Alternatively a few registry edits will add the "Run as Administrator" option to msi files which will allow the instillation to go smoothly.

For any MSI package:

1. Right mouse click the package, select "Create Shortcut".
2. Right mouse click the shortcut, select "Properties".
3. In the "Shortcut" tab -> "Target" box, insert "msiexec /i " to the beginning of the text (space after "/i").
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
5. Right mouse click the shortcut, select "Run as Administrator".

This way, you do not have to turn off UAC.

I tried all the suggestions listed and did get the program to install, but when I go to open pvrx2 it brings up and exception error. I am attaching a zipped file of the logs in case you can tell me what is not working.

It can't find the server:
Quote:2008-04-06 00:26:20.232 VERBOSE [1] getValue: /settings/ClientRemoteDirectory : \\LEVI\gbpvr
2008-04-06 00:26:21.620 ERROR [1] Error: msg=0x18 (WM_SHOWWINDOW) hwnd=0x60236 wparam=0x1 lparam=0x0 result=0x0 : System.IO.IOException: The network name cannot be found.
If you have a software firewall running, try disabling it. If it fixes the problem, add exceptions for config.exe, pvrx2.exe and recordingservice.exe. You might need one for gbpvrtray.exe as well

Thanks Whurlston for the help. The last set of instructions you gave coupled with a passive install worked on getting the install to work.

The second problem with the exception error was caused by my share folder not being shared. Once I reshared my GBPVR folder the program started working.

Thanks again for the help!
