Will there be any special steps needed once these start rolling out?

Is this considered an analog or digital device by GB-PVR (or something else altogether)...
GBPVR v1.4.7
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz
4 GB RAM, 160GB system drive
640GB recording drive
PVR-500 - analog cable stations
HDHomeRun - ASTC via antenna
nVidia GeForce 8600GT
1 PCH @ 1080p componenent (was NTSC via composite)
1 PCH @ 1080p HDMI (was component)

When you create the capture source you'll use the 'Analog HD Recording Plugin' option. Its probably not worth worrying about it until you actually have it.

well, now is the time when HD-PVRs are in hand.

and...
surprise surprise I am missing something.

The HD-PVR works within the arcsoft total media package that came included so it shouldnt be hardware

but i am having trouble getting it setup in GBPVR
in config.exe under capture sources i have added the HD-PVR
as an Analog HD Recording Plugin Device
with a schedules direct (up to date membership) EPG source
but i am unsure what i should be using as a channel changer plugin? right now i am trying the USB-UIRT plugin but whenever i try to set that up and go to a new profile (the point where it tells me to press the 1 key) config.exe crashes

either way when i goto pvrx2 and try to goto a show through the guide (which shows correctly) or just to liveTV i am not getting anything. it just kind of flickers and goes back to the main menu.

yes i am a n00b but i am not sure where i should be even looking here.

try no channel changer for a bit until you can confirm that you get a signal - then play with that bit.

using no channel changer (and just using the STB remote to change channels) does work
i have the hauppauge IR.exe installed as well so theoretically i think i should be able to get this to work
i also need to know where to look to be able to change the bitrate on the HD-PVR for the incoming video.

With the hauppauge IR it needs to know how to talk to you cable box. You'll have to verify that yourself with the settings and on the Hauppauge site.

Personally i use a usb-uirt for controlling my STB over here since the box isn't "known" but the Hauppauge IR blaster.

As for the hd-pvr settings are they under the channel source configuration for that device in the config app?? I'm guessing cos I don't have one of these devices..

ok, so i did get the IR blaster working correctly by just manually selected the haupblast.exe under the channel changer .exe option

i am oddly not getting any sound, however (though that should probably be an easy fix once i poke around). and the default encoding rate (i think its 5mb) is noticably worse than just watching the HD feed out of the STB, though even that isnt great since its a compressed comcast feed.

also, as an FYI the options under the capture source are
Capture Card Type (set to hauppauge HD-PVR)
Board Number (set to Capture Device #1)
Input Source (set to component)

Component doesn't carry audio so You'll need to have a audio connection from the STB. I'm assuming it would go into the HD-PVR box somewhere.
