PVR500 vs 2xPVR150

I am looking at getting a freeview card, and have been looking at the PVR500 as I want dual tuners, though the only place that seems to have it in the UK won't have it for a while and I am pretty impatient and want a card before christmas. (There is another place but they want £300 for the card!

I have also noticed that some people run a pair of PVR150s which I can get and cost about the same.

What are the downsides to each? I've got enough space for a pair of cards...

the 150 come with an ir blaster, which hopefully will be compatible with gbpvr in the future, so you can change the channel on a external devices (like on sky digital etc). but if this is of no use to you, get the 500, you wont have dramas of trying to get both of them to work at the same time, but this shouldnt be an issue for much longer. but with the 150s you'll get two remotes !

Already got a USBIRT so I don't need to worry about the IR blaster.


Having 2 running is a problem? does this happen to *everyone* or is there a chance I will get away with it? and this will be resolved... in GBPVR or is it a machine problem?

To be honest, if I was going down the PVR150 route I would have only bought one card for now and another card early next year, if the problems are going to be resolved soon maybe it might be sorted when I get the 2nd card


So it seems like the 150 for me atm, unless you know of somewhere where I can get the PVR500 quickly?

the problems are just it may take a while to get them going, but you should be able to get them going, sometimes its just a pain to get to that stage, but once theyre going you should be sweet.

personally i would go for the 150s but thats just me, others might say the 500.

Whats the difference between the 150 and 150MCE ?

the 150 comes with a remote and the ir blaster (i have one of these myself, the new remote is way better). the 150mce comes with a fm tuner and no remote. i got a fm tuner on my 350 (never use it) and well i wanted the ir blaster, its a little bit more expensive, but the remote is handy and ir blaster is nice, who cares about an fm tuner anyways

Well, I'm having problems getting two PVR-150MCE's to run together. If anyone else has been successful, I'd like to hear from them.

BTW, the MCE version does not come with a remote or an ir-blaster, at least not in the U.S., only the card and a drivers CD. They do have an FM tuner capability, tho. I don't know how/if they're different in other ways. The WinTV2000 app works fine with the MCE version, altho you have to download it from Hauppauge's web site, it isn't on the CD.

I would rather have two cards in case one card went bad and needed to be repaired. I would only buy the PVR-500 if I did not have enough slots available for it on the mainboard.

just stay clear of the hauppauge offical cds, they're nothing but trouble, download the latest cd from shspvr.com, once you put the hauppauge cd in your machine, its a real pain to get rid of it. they are old drivers, and well they arent very good.
