There might be some interesting things upcoming in Hi-Jack's review of DivX Connected devices.

http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=...le&sid=553

The mention of Hauppauge as a licensee of the technology might interest some of you too. Since it uses older Sigma technology then the PCH (like the SageTV extender) I am quite curious how it will compare.

On the Hauppauge bit, I think they're just referring to the divx software components licensed for use in the existing MVP software (as part of the AVI playback support).

Yeah, reading that it certainly sounds like there is something more to it.

Quote:expected to be available in retail in the second half of 2008
that's pretty soon...
nice for them to finally have something to Playback all those quality HD streams their stuff is creating...
here's hoping it actually does hit shelves this year before xmas.. Big Grin

now we need to look up what the proposed 'specs' are for the framework...
'Open' sounds great, plugins [like Weather?] sounds good too..

maybe this will be a 'better' Upnp...Smile

I did some checking last fall and their "open" sdk applies to the server only and they didn't want to open the client at all so I didn't consider it a candidate for mvpmc's emulation mode at all. In the market sense I see it competing more with the Windows MCE extenders and Apple TV, then with the PCH and other generic media extenders.

there's a pc client and free server so you can try it out for yourself..
http://labs.divx.com/ConnectedPCClient
[free server and client app]

i remember the initial press releases also...

i thought it might be able to be used as a plugin 'server' for gbpvr that could utilize the hardware players already out there...any thoughts?
an alternative to mvp and popcorn hardware, albeit with a different server..

depends on how capable/portable it is..details, details...

EDIT: ahh,nevermind..no mpeg2.....and no hardware on shelves...
i'd rather have a popcorn...Big Grin

Have a look at the specs.

It seems everything still needs to be transcoded to DivX which is what I was told last year too.

The Hauppauge unit (or is it?) made engadget.
