Just got my HDhomerun this weekend. Live in US and the first thing I did after installing hdhomerun drivers and updating firmware was to set up tuner 0 for QAM on my cable. Things went very smoothly; modifed my Schedulesdirect account to download the unencrypted digital channel data. Remapping went surprisingly well (I think). The guide showed the proper cable channel numbers and call signs. Next I tried setting up tuner 0 for OTA use. Again, found all expected channels during scan; modified the Schedulesdirect account to download OTA broadcast channel data (noticed that the channel numbers were different than for the digital cable as expected, but the actual channel descriptions were the same ie 813 WACHDT for QAM and 19-2 WACHDT for OTA)
Pressed the Update EPG button and after this noticed that the channel list looked exactly the same as when I did the tuner 0 setup in other words there was no indication of new channels which I guess is right is some respects since the program guide would have the same information for the same station whether QAM or OTA. I was a little worried but figured the software new how to put in the correct channel numbers for the OTA stations and I went ahead and mapped the OTA channels to their respective program guide channels. So I saved the config info went into gbpvr and saw only the QAM channels still in the epg and no new channels with the OTA channel numbers as I had hoped. Also, now when I tried to view one of the digital channels, it says no signal. It worked fine before trying to add tuner 1. I am running GBPVR version 1.2.9

Sorry to be so verbose, but I hope someone can help.

Thanks

I think you and I have the same issue, and I hope I'm not hijacking the thread.
I have two capture sources with some channels that are identical, in those cases, the EPG only shows one of them.
Is there a way to make the EPG list all the accessible channels, even the identical ones?

This is normal, and exactly what it as supposed to do. If there are multiple capture sources with the same channel name, then they're treated as the same channel, and that single channel will only be listed once in the TV Guide.

I understand, but unfortunately I can't choose which capture source gets priority (unless I missed that option somewhere).
What I'll do as a workaround is name the channels differently on the EPG listings.
I REALLY appreciate the prompt responses, thanks again! Big Grin

For recordings it works its way down the capture source list looking for an available device that has the requested channel. Live TV does the opposite and works its way up the capture source list.

In my case, with the HDHomerun, the channel numbers ARE different for each source eventhough the programming is the same. And when I tried to configure both I could not view the channels that were shared.

So Please help me set it up the correct way; I guess I can live with not being able to choose the source (QAM or OTA).

That would be set by the tuning string in each capture source. For example:

WACHDT on OTA tuner: T:19,2,0~P:2041~V:2043~A:2044
WACHDT on QAM tuner: T:71,4,0~P:8019~V:8051~A:8053

Only one WACHDT will show up in the guide but it will send a different tuning request depending on which tuner it uses.

To do this, just make sure you select the correct tuning string in the "Map digital channels..."

Thanks for the replies; I am still having trouble.

My HDHomerun is behaving as if both inputs must be of the same type; either both 8vsb or both QAM but not one 8vsb and one QAM.

Is this true??

I set up GBPVR with tuner 0 as QAM and tuner 1 as 8vsb. I can get one or the other to display video by using the HDHomerun setup program to set to either 8vsb or QAM. (I thought this setting applied to each tuner individually, but it appears that both tuners are either 8vsb or QAM but not one of each). As a matter of fact, I have to "toggle" the tuners using the HDHomerun setup in order to get the channel mapping scan in gbpvr config to work. Am I missing something or do both inputs have to be the same?

Thanks

In the HDHomeRun Setup, select the Tuners tab and set the signal source to Advanced. You should be able to select one as Cable, and the other as Antenna, with the Application being set as "Other". That much works for me, but I have not been able to get GB-PVR to record from both types either, so I have just gone with QAM thus far, but will be interested in the progress you make.

Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that tonight.

I did get a confirmation from the support people at the HDHomerun forum that each tuner can be set independently for OTA and QAM. He mentioned that some applications do not support this at this time [MCE and TotalMedia] but he thought that GBPVR did.

Edit:
Additional info about how I am trying to set up. I am using the "multiple lineups" option with SchedulesDirect as described in the GBPVR Wiki. I am hoping this will allow me to assign different channel numbers to the signals (using the Channels Tab in GBPVR config) so that I can essentially choose which tuner to use to watch/record digital channels even though the station id and program info is duplicated for each tuner on many of the channels. Will this work? or is it likely to cause some of my problems?
