I keep getting this line down the right side of my screen when watching TV. What might be causing it and how do I get rid of it?

EDIT: I did find this in config.xml...

<HorizontalZoom>1.05</HorizontalZoom>

I changed it to 1.25 which got rid of the line, but the video was obviously stretched.

I don't really want ot stretch it but rather move the video a little to the right to eliminate the bar I see. Is that possible and, if it is, how?

Normally your TV would zoom the picture more than your PC, pushing this line over the edge of the screen. This is the overscanning you'll often see discussed.

If you also increase the vertical zoom, then the picture wont looked stretched out of shape.

<OverScanBorderX1>0</OverScanBorderX1>
<OverScanBorderY1>0</OverScanBorderY1>
<OverScanBorderX2>0</OverScanBorderX2>
<OverScanBorderY2>0</OverScanBorderY2>

I take it these mean left, right, up, down? Is that the correct order?

They only make the screen smaller, so wont help you.

You need to use the horizontal and vertical zoom settings to emulate the overscan your tv would normally apply.

<HorizontalZoom>1.03</HorizontalZoom>
<HorizontalOffset>100</HorizontalOffset>
<VerticalZoom>1.05</VerticalZoom>
<VerticalOffset>0</VerticalOffset>

Yeah that appears to be it. Changing the offset is making no difference at all.

I did change HorizontalZoom to 1.28 which got rid of the line, but the height was not right so I adjusted VerticalOffset which took away too much of the screen to make things look right (i.e. people's heads and legs missing).

I am still playing around with settings. I have a 16:10 computer monitor. My TV is standard 4:3 as is the signal being sent from my Dish Network 311 STB.

EDIT
Well I don't think it is going to do what I want. I can hide the line and make things looks somewhat well in PVRX2 with these settings to config.xml...

<HorizontalZoom>1.28</HorizontalZoom>
<HorizontalOffset>0</HorizontalOffset>
<VerticalZoom>1.18</VerticalZoom>
<VerticalOffset>0</VerticalOffset>

And I play back video in PVRX2 and the line doesn't show. But if I load the video with say Windows Media Player, it shows that damn line. I guess there are too many shitty TV cards out there. All I want is to get rid of that stupid line no matter what program I use to play the file. I know this isn't PVRX2's fault. It's probably just the driver for the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 or the card itself.

Often these sort of things (line on side of screen etc) are actually part of the broadcast, so the TV capture card will record it. Particularly if this is the digital side of the HVR1800 - not a single thing about the picture is changed during the recording process. TVs normally hide all sorts of junk just off the top and sides of the screen with their overscanning.

Yeah I notice there are some channels that never seem to show the line. All the channels though do show the video a bit shifted to the left. I also notice I see more on the computer as opposed to the TV (i.e. more video left, right, up, and down). Watching my recordings in PVRX2 is OK after the adjustments mentioned earlier. I am just too use to using Windows Media Player or VLC to watch videos I guess, lol.

All in all, I think I have a good TV card and I am using the best PVR software program which of course is GBPVR/PVRX2. As always, thanks for the help sub Smile
