I have read through the various threads and I believe I should be able to get FLAC and WMA lossless files to play on my MVP however they continually fail. I believe FLAC files are re-coded to MP3 via ffmpeg (though MVPMC may natively support FLAC) so I have manually tried to encode with ffmpeg and that fails as well FLAC - "could not find codec parameters" and WMA lossless "unsupported codec"

I have the CoreFLAC codec installed (not sure if I actually needed it) as well as the usual Microsoft ones - VLC has no issues playing either file.

Can anybody tell me what I am missing.

Thanks,

Jon

This is probably an mvpmc forum question I often miss them up here. Sub hasn't implemented FLAC support for mvpmc yet so you still have to use the hack I mentioned here

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=1

The second problem is the ffmeg that sub distributed doesn't support .flac

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=6

Once you get it working, and if your ffmpeg supports wma lossless these will be transcoded to flac on the fly too.

Martin,

Thanks for the quick response.

In terms of the --em-flac option. I am using your latest version of the MVPMC which auto loads into emulation mode how do I add this option. Will a dongle.bin.config file with this option work (NB I never got the share thing working)

Sub, is it possible to include the latest version of ffmpeg into the next release and also enable flac passthrough?

NB it appears that ffmpeg will not support wma lossless...unless anyone knows better I will convert the wma lossless files to flac (I already have plenty of these)

You can't add options with this new method, but yes it would work with a config file from a share. You can always try it if you telnet to your mvp and issue the commands

killall mvpmc
mvpmc --startup emulate --emulate xx.xx.xx.xx --em-flac &
exit

Is this an option which could be added to later versions?

Thanks. I will go and test now
Tested - it fails. The issue appears to be with ffmpeg as I still get "could not find codec parameters" if try to convert from CLI. I am using the latest version (April 08) from the download site you mentioned. I had a search for later compiled versions but drew a blank. Do you have a later version which you can share?

It's up to sub to answer all the server side question, but I'd rather he just allows FLAC pass through like he does for the PCH. As for the ffmpeg I use it will be one of those. If you provide a failing flac file sample I will have a try.

Martin.

Martin,

Thanks - I have sent you a PM to a link on my web server which has a short flac file which is failing with "could not find codec parameters". It play fine via Windows Media Player (and others)

It looks like ffmpeg doesn't like id3v2 tags on you flac file, removing it worked. As a note I found this quote on Hydrogen Audio

"You've configured EAC to add ID3 tags and that is a no-no with flac files!"

Fortunately It does play natively on mvpmc.

Great thanks - hopefully sub may enable next version to pass flac files directly to mvpmc, otherwise I would need to strip of the tags (EAC is one of the programmes I use). Is there any impact in having the --em-flac option permanently enabled on mvpmc (eg other file types not playing properly) if not could it be permanently enabled?
