The server is a Vista Basic machine using GBPVr 1.2.9. Clients are XP Pro machines, one with 1.2.9 and one with 1.2.13.

I have shared the server GBPVR directory as directed by the Wiki so that 'everyone' has read and write privileges, but when any machine on my network tries to access this directory it says that i don't have permission.

I have disabled the firewalls (F-Secure) on all the machines whilst i try and get this working.

I know this is a Windows issue but i notice other people have gotten this working and i would love to know how. Currently i get the big red cross when i open PVRX2 on a client and a list of 8 tuners.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm still on XP, but is 'everyone' really everyone? How about specifically giving r/w access to 'guest'

Can the clients access the server share with just windows?

I fought with that problem for a while when I first set it up.

what fixed it for me was I mapped the folder to a drive letter on the client, then told the client to go to that drive letter.
Server--AthlonXP 2100+ \ PVR150MCE \ HVR1600 x2
Client 1--Athlon64 3200+
Client 2--Athlon64 3700+
Client 3--Turion64x2 1.9 laptop

I have now added the 'guest' to the list of users and given r/w rights to this user, I've also mapped a drive on the client to the shared directory on the server (but this also says it is unavailable).

Unfortunately neither seem to have worked, I still cannot access the directory within Windows Explorer and the network drive i mapped says it is unavailable.

The firewall on each machine is letting all traffic through. Strangely when i tell Vista to share this directory it brings up a different screen than when i just share a normal directory of files - Vista file sharing seems to be more difficult than it needs to be.

Solved: Thanks to an old post at http://help.lockergnome.com/vista/Vista-...27353.html by 'Crazy_Rach'.

Setting the permissions is not enough, you have to go into the 'Security' tab too and add all the permissions here too. Why it is necessary here and not on other folders is beyond me, also why they make you change it in two different tabs. Stupid implementation in my opinion.

Thanks for your suggestions though guys.

EDIT: Also thanks Sub for making such a great application, I now have my old PC in a bedroom making use of all the recordings on my 'server' without having to see 'Windows' or use the mouse. Thank you for me (and my fiancee, she likes it as much as me).
