is gbpvr vista compatible?

i have been trying for weeks to get this software to allow me to watch hd clear qam with my hauppauge 2250. suddenly a few nights ago i got a security error.

logon process has failed to create the security options dialog

i haven't done anything else new to it really other than mess around with gbpvr installation. i also can't get my computer usable again because of whatever this problem is. it takes about fifteen minutes to boot up, when it does boot up. after that, everything is so slow i can't actually run any software before it eventually freezes on me.

thanks for any help here. once again my $4500 new build is useless...

I'm using it on Vista, and developing on Vista, so yes - its Vista compatible.

These dont sound like problems caused by GB-PVR to me, and I havnt seen any reports of the same from other users.

I'm using it on 2 Vista installs. One using only analog and another system using GBPVR with a HVR-1600. I've never had any luck with QAM with both GBPVR and WinTV but in my case, it's most likely my cable company. Reading the weak Hauppauge forums around the net, I'm not the only one with QAM aches and pains.
FWIW, Cox officials off the record tell me they won't be promising support for QAM when the big HD change comes in 2009.

just thought i'd check as it would be an easy fix to start uninstalling gbpvr if that was the case. as it stands, my computer just runs in neutral not freezing or doing anything if it chooses to boot up, and i don't know what i can do to fix it. i would like to scan the hard drive for errors, but i haven't been able to get that to happen yet. takes too many steps to get there.

You'd probably best to check what is using the CPU or generating disk I/O etc when its in this state.

I searched that error message since I never have seen it and it looks like a serious problem all right. It's the kind of message I'd expect if you had a bad driver or something else at the kernel level. Be really careful with 32bit vs 64 bit drivers. Maybe your antivirus too?

What about running in safe mode and than go back with system restore.

Does it work with Vista 64? I plan on wiping my 5+ year old XP installation soon because I'm experiencing some strange problems, and figured I'd move to the latest and greatest.

It does, but there is no real benefit of x64 for an HTPC.

I also use my HTPC for web browsing, development, games, etc. So I assume there would be a benefit to moving to 64-bit with the other tasks.
