Hi, I've been using GBPVR for a couple years now but in a unconvential way (I suspect). I'm using it with an Nvidia DualTV card to ONLY capture VHS tapes. It has worked well up to today when I upgraded from XP to Vista Home Premium and updated GBPVR from 1.2.9 to 1.2.13 (1.2.9 would not install under Vista?). Anyway, I'm now having the exact same issue discussed in this other thread:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=37856

I even looked in the logs and also see divide by zero errors. I did what I could based on this thread, but since I'm not tuning anything, there doesn't seem to be much that applies to me, apart from check that I do have enabled channels and my Recordings & LiveTV directories do exist.

In the logs I also find this "GBPVR.Backend.Common.GbpvrException: No channels have been set up. Please run the Configuration utility and setup the EPG source. Use the 'Update EPG' button to force the system to import the latest set of channel and programme information."

The way I have my capture sources set up per the attached screen captures. This setup has worked and enabled me to record from VCR as a manual recording since I started using prior versions of GBPVR under XP. But an EPG...no, of course there won't be one (I even said there wasn't one in the setup). Past versions gave me a Guide, albeit a blank one, and live "TV" without complaint.

Did something change from 1.2.9 to 1.2.13 or is this related to Vista? Any other ideas? Logs are attached at the bottom since I see they get asked for frequently...

Its probably vista's file protection getting in the way. Try deleting the "c:\users\<your account>\appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\devnz" directory.

Well, Good news and bad news. I deleted the referenced folder. Good news: Now I have a (blank) TV Guide as before (as I explained in the original post this is what I think it should be). Bad news: Live TV flashes black and almost imediately goes back to the menu. I looked in the PVRX2.LOG and found this entry:

"GBPVR.Backend.Common.GbpvrException: Failed to locate configured capture device"

Just in case it was Windows Media Center "sitting" on the tuner, I completely disabled all Media Center services, then uninstalled GBPVR and deleted all residue from program files and the file protection cache. Reboot, reinstall 1.2.13, reboot, re-Config'd, and same result...

Latest logs attached

Its not finding the device you've told it to use.

Can you run filtercheck.exe from the gbpvr directory, then zip and attach the filtercheck.log?

Wow, this is better than tech support I pay for! Here is the log. Might want to warn Vista users they need to run this from a command prompt as a administrator. Double clicking it from explorer doesn't write the file.

I took a quick peek and it's there, maybe some of the pin names/numbers have changed between XP & Vista drivers?

Checking AM_KSCATEGORY_CROSSBAR filters
found: NVIDIA DualTV Crossbar
- (input) 0: Video Tuner In
- (input) 1: Video Composite In
- (input) 2: Video SVideo In
- (input) 3: Audio Tuner In
- (input) 4: Audio Line In
- (output) 0: Video Decoder Out
- (output) 1: Audio Decoder Out

I'm not really sure what the problem is. The filter and pin names look ok to me.

Makes two of us. I just tried both input 1 and input 2 on the built in tuner, composite, and S-Video, all with the same result. Here is maybe a clue though? On the configuration drop down menus it shows three composite inputs and 2 S-Video but the cross bar only shows one of each? (I did try them all to no avail)

Well, if there is anything else I can try or supply, please let me know.

Today I learned even though I AM the adminstrator on this PC that Vista doesn't seem to want to admit it. I was able to sucesfully install 1.2.9 by running the installer as an administrator, but the result is the same except that "Settings" seemed to work.

I then reinstalled Vista onto a freshly formatted drive and applied all patches and drivers from Windows Update (took ALL DAY!) and on top of that re-installed GB-PVR 1.2.13 as the only application on this PC. The result is no different. "Live TV" flashes a brief black screen and returns to the menu. "Settings" flashes very briefly a screen with a green bar and three options and returns to the menu. No errors are given, this is all it's doing.

I have discovered though in order for the gpvrtray to operate correctly I have to stop it and run it as an administrator, otherewise I get an "unhandled exception error" dialog box when I "restart the recording service". Are other people not experiencing this problem? I have tried running PVRX2 as administrator, no change. Is there something else running in the background by chance that needs administrator privledges?

Going back to XP is looking AWFULLY attractive at this point. No wonder nobody likes Vista.

In the config app, enable live preview mode, and make sure the live tv buffer directory is set to a location that exists. If that doesnt help, reproduce the problem then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

This is a known bug in this release. Its easily fixed by creating an empty 'skin' subdirectory in the gbpvr directory.

I love Vista and I think it is amazingly stable and it is especially good for media playing. You just have to unlearn some bad habits.
