This has never happened for me. GBPVR keeps recordings in a database and there is a default setting in config that will remove entries from the database if it cannot see the file on disk (runs once in a while).

With videoredo, I work on the main file but when I come to save it, I save to a default temp directory and at the end move the file to its rightful place. I've not lost one from the database doing it this way.

As long as it's name and location are exactly as the original, it should stay in the database.
You can never have enough tuners!

You can change the filetype/extension and it stays in the database as well if the filetype is in "the list" I'm not sure of the list, but mpg and avi are certainly in it.

I bought TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3, but after trying a trial version of TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress, I wish I had bought that. It has the same editing capabilities, plus integrated format transcoding.

The thing I really like about TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3 is the oscilloscope like visual display of the audio track, which makes it easy to do edits that sound as clean as they look. Of course, the frame accurate cutting and the minimal re-encoding, which makes for fast processing, are great, too.
