LOL! She fell a sleep in front of the TV so I could go and take a look Big Grin

Please try this MusicScanner.exe, replace the old one. NOTE! You who had hangs/crashes with earlier version MUST delete the current MUSIC.DB3 file in InstallDir, otherwise it'll crash again... :p

This MusicScanner doesn't crash but there are problems running it from the PCH because it is an interactive desktop application that requires user input. This has got to run as a silent service. Also when you exit the scanner it looks like the scanner logs aren't being flushed to disk. (All of this on Vista)

I'm on Vista and I'm not sure if this does not complete due to my file tags etc etc or whether it's a plugin issue? Only 311 of 925 and stops there?

Is this due to many missing tags titles albums?

I think that's the number of folder.jpg's that you have in the folders. The last thing it was doing was creating "MD5" folder images.
Rescan only search for changes in MP3 files or images.....you can see that image files already exist in the logs.
I've got 28000 files and scanning is really fast for me.

So the problem is I have not enough jpg's of the albums? I can download these right? Can anyone recommend a good proggy (freeware?) that can detect and download tag details and album art?

In the zip, I included the program Autolyrix.
I you start that program, new albumart will be downloaded every time you play a song. (command line will be sent to the program. have a look at the music.xml file.)
AutoLyrix will create an AlbumArt folder and a Lyrics folder. There is a readme file regarding command lines in the Music plugin dir. There is a BAT file there that will use the xmove.exe and move the AlbumArt to MusicArt folders.

It would be great if AutoLyrix could donwload AlbumArt and Lyics at the same inte from command line, but unfortunatly it can't. With command line args, you can select either or and get correct file naming. I have written to the author of AutoLyrix a couple of weeks ago, hoping for some changes, but no answer yet.

Cool, I'll have a look. Yes, doing that automagically (if none exists) would be GREAT!

Well, AutoLyrix will not check if AlbumArt already exists, It will download AlbumArt everytime a song is played to the folders it creates. You will see that it creates a Sub folder named AlbumArt and then folders named A, B, C etc where the art work is stored.
There is not really a need to store a folder.jpg in each music album directory forhaving the cover art to show up in the Music plugin.
If AlbumArt is copied to the directory .\Media\MusicArt\AlbumArt the art will show up in the search views. The plugin is made like this to allows directories with a lot of mixed music and still get correct AlbumArt if Tags exists.
Overall I think AutoLyrix is rellay fantastic, but with some modification it would be awesome. Getting both Albumrt and Lyrics at the same tíme with correct namning.
If you have songs that is not tagged, try Musicbrainz, Picard tagger. It wil make a "fingerprint" of the song and find the song in the Musicbrainz database. Picard works really great. The Godfather is another great tagging program.

The idea is that the MusicScanner run silently in tray. There is no need to ever view it. You can start a scan manually from within the plugin. Otherwise it will make a scan every sheduled time. But the sheduled scan will just take a minute or so.....even if there are 10000 song, because it looks in the database to see if there have been any changes to songs or folder.jpg.
It is only the first time scan that takes a while.
Try clicking on the Search button and you will see how fast a second scan is.

Because the PCH/MVP run as system administrator service on Vista it doesn't run in the tray. It is also interactive which is a bad design for a service regardless of XP/Vista. I have done several scans and actually have used the plugin extensively and like it very much and it is very fast but I do want to have control of when it runs and I would like to be able to control it from the PCH/MVP instead of it hanging as it does now.
