Server Spec Question

Hi i have installed and setup GBPVR on a dual core 2.6 box with 2 Gig or ram and successfully setup a client on a P4 2gig box. I want to setup 3 other clients using P4 machines but have a small problem with the display on the P4 client. The client has 1 gig DDR400 ram, Nvidia series 6 GFX, 1 gig lan. The video on live tv has a very slight tear on some high speed video. I am running a Nvidia series 6 card with 256Mb on a 37" LCD tv @ 720p.

Would i be better off running the server on one of the P4 boxes and using the dual core as the client for the 720p display. Also if i used the P4 as a server would it be man enough to drive 3 clients at the same time.

GBPVR is a very nice piece of software...very impressed

If the only thing the server will be doing is recording, you're better off delegating the dual-core as client. Playback requires more power than writing to the hard drive does.

Thank you for your fast reply. The server will only be recording but it will be providing live tv for up to 2 clients. Just wandered if a P4 2Gig > would be up to it.

As long as it's not doing any playback or transcoding, it should be fine. I've only used file sharing mode on my clients and for live TV, all the server really does is write a temp file to the hard drive which the clients then read.
