No, it's me, I confused this message with one of the other's today. If you can't even load telnet your file sharing permissions are wrong.

Can you try this method

Sorry think this maybe be a school boy error, I should know better.

The one thing the instructions dont say is to ensure the telnet service is running on your GBPVR server.

After playing all evening I just thought I would telnet from one PC to the other, which failed, so checked the Telnet service, and of course it wasnt running.

This must me the defautl setting as both PC's are fresh installs. Cant believe I overlooked this. So will re modify my script in the morning and try again.

I looked at USB as well, which didnt work (we know why now), USB stick get hot though, so not an option.

No that's not it, no telnet services are used.

But in looking at your posts I saw I missed a post when I wrote a message

<a href="http://localhost.drives:8883/[SMB]%20steve@MT490:mvpvc/script.cgi">Telnet</a>

should now be

<a href="http://localhost.drives:8883/NETWORK_SHARE/steve@MT490:mvpvc/script.cgi">Telnet</a>

all the old examples with [SMB] are wrong.

Edit: To see the name that should be use try this from your browser

If I dont have the telent service running, when I try telent from another PC, it says it cannot open the connection to the host on port 23: connect failed.

If I start the service It will connect but fails on security, saying the user needs to be in the telnetclients group, which is what I'm trying to find.

Maybe I am barking up the wring tree, but basics to me say that if another PC cannot telnet with another PC which gives better error messages, then the PCH wont either.

Your file permissions are good so the problems are going to be one of the things I suggested earlier. I would start over follow the instructions in the survival guide but also download the pch_sample again and start over since in post 10 you had the wrong syntax.

- make sure you use the correct editor
- when you changed EditMe you might have used the wrong name. Look at post 13
- your mount syntax might be wrong , see post 8 and now you will know what username and rw/ro status to use.

OK, so I have started again, and think I am getting a bit further. If I change telnet.html to read

<a href="http://localhost.drives:8883/NETWORK_SHARE/mvpmc/script.cgi">Telnet</a>

where mvpmc is the name of my share I get

"mkdir: cannot create director"

If I # out mkdir /etc/mvpmc in script.cgi it then seems to read the next line.

If I change mvpmc to mvpmc1 I get the old message, so I think I am geting somewhere, need your help I'm afraid.

thanks

For some strane reason I thought I would just try the GB-PVR option instead of telnet, and it seems to work.

No I am really confussed.

That is how it is supposed to work for now. You run telnet once after a real power on and then you run gbpvr to start the client.

Forget the last couple of posts.

It's working now, the unit needed a full powerdown, looks like telnet was running which is why it couldnt reate the directory, and why GB-PVR would run.

thanks for your help, although I am sure I will be back.
