I figued this would be popular enough to enjoy it's own Wiki entry. Guess not.

The Wife has finally signed off on a new hardware platform. (Previous system dates from around 2002)

So I have a brand new E8400 Core2Duo running Vista Ultimate that I've built.

What's the easiest way to migrate from Machine A to Machine B?

I bought the Purevideo (I think It's purevideo, it's whatever Sub used to recommend back in 2005/2006) decoder back when I was on XP. Do I need to move this (if even possible), or since I have Vista Ultimate, is this even nesacary? (Hauppauge's web site leads me to believe I don't need this)

On Machine A, I started with GBPVR back in 2005 (didn't join the forums till much later) I've upgrade every release since then, and played with MANY plugins. I think I want to start fresh with my new machine.

Is there an easy way to get all my existing re-occuring programs into my new machine?

Is there an easy way to get all my existing recorded programs into my new machine (moving the files is easy)

I Have an MVP as well, and I'm aware of the issue that Sub pointed out in the survival guide.

Specific to my migration, I have an Hauppauge PVR-500MCE. Is the latest driver off they're website the one I should be using? (Timestamp issue) I read the wiki entry, just wondering if there was any "late breaking" info.

  1. In config, on the plugins tab hit export recordings
  2. If any locations have changed, do a find and replace on the xml file generated in step 1 to reflect the new location
  3. Copy files over to new install
  4. Import the xml file into your new install (config->plugins tab

AFAIK you would have to use some sql to copy these across from the old database to the new one (modifying any changes to paths in the mean time) - Someone may chip in with a better solution. I suppose you might be able to get away with just copying the database over if using the same version etc

if you have the same version of gbpvr on both systems, you can just copy over the gbpvr.db and config.xml after installing gbpvr on the new system.

I have just been throught exactly the same sceneraio, moving from an old AMD athlon XP to a C2C E7200, ASUS p5Q, ATI 4630 and vista business.

Fronm what I have read on the web, Purevideo doesn;t work on vista without registry tweaks. I used PV on XP but have not tried to get it working on vista yet.

Vista has an mpeg decoder but IIRC, it doesn't work correctly.

I am using ffdshow as the video and audio decoder for everything. Seems pretty good now I have a decent cpu. Only problem is that I can't seem to get it to work with the TS MUX recordings. Things are still work in progress here atm.
