I installed the newest version today - it looks great with the new skin and it looks like it reverts back to blue skin with plug-ins if the new skin isn't available which is a great improvement as well.

However, a slight concern. I use it standalone - no web server or PCH but the first channel I selected to watch windows firewall came up and asked me to unblock pvrx2.exe. I kept it blocked and it still works but where/why is it calling to the outside world?

(Could this be a filter I am using? ie cyberlink or pure video?)

There is no functionality which talks home. Where does it say its trying to connect to?

PVRX2.exe and GBPVRRecordingService.exe talk to each other via TCP/IP, on the same machine, which sometimes triggers firewall software, but it could also be the decodeer you're using. If the firewall gives you info about where its connecting to, this would give a pretty good clue.

I reset the firewall and it came up again but with no specific destination. I attached the screenshot but its not really helpful.

I also dl'd Peerguardian to log connections. It doesn't log anything so I believe it is a false alarm caused by the internal communication. I guess my suspicion of a Kiwi plot to takeover the world are incorrect :0)

Cheers!

Why not fire up a packet sniffer, like SmartSniff and see what's going on?

Mine did the same thing when I upgraded last night... I haven't changed the codecs from previous versions (PDVD7&8 and AC3Filter) so I dont think it can be them.

That is not the "phoning home" site. Like sub said, it is most likely TCP/IP traffic within the system, or some other agent (codec or device re-registering to the upgrade).

WeltonWay is the "owner" of gbpvr. That is why it is listed as publisher.
