can anyone offer any advice on 2 minor problems i am having with gbpvr:

the first is internet activity interrupting video and audio whilst watching live tv. for example if my antivirus does an auto update or i go onto yahoo home page with all the little animations etc the livetv is disrupted - is this a problem the way data is streamed on the motherboard or a problem with graphic card? any solutions would be appreciated.

the other is quite minor and i suspect the geforce 5600 is not man enough, whilst watching live tv the screen can break down into many thin horizontal lines especially with a lot of movement in the video stream.

any solutions or advice would be appreciated, many thanks.

It sounds like either your machine isnt up to it, or your antivirus/firewall software is causing the problem.

sub,
thanks again for the help.

i am using an athon xp 3200+, 2gigs ram & geforce 5600 video card - do you think this a possible problem?

i also noticed earlier that the antivirus updating caused the stuttering but there was only an update icon in the task bar so it doesnt like like the video card is being overworked.

cant understand how the internet activity would cause disruption, although the tv card (PVR 1300) is pci as is the on board ethernet adapter.

is it likely the pci bus is just running 'flat out'?

any idea on the lines? vga card not good enough?

thanks

Very doubtful. I used to use my current server as a normal machine and didn't run int problems like yours. It is a dedicated machine now, but has no problem with running a backup to a NAS drive whilst recording on a couple of tuners.

One possibility to check that I occasionally suffer from is the disk drive interface dropping back to PIO mode from DMA and that does have an impact on recording and playback for me. Control panel for the interface should show this up.

martin thanks,

checked the transfer mode and its dma mode 4.......

heres a wierd thing, i have an optimiser program for the network connections,
it gives a list of ethernet , modem,

bluetooth and also a 'microsoft tv/video connection' that never used to be there.

is the pv r1300 card therefore somehow involved in the network?

I hate to say it, but it has been my flat out experience that there is no such a thing as an optimizer. It always messes with things.

The defaults should be just fine. Period.

You may want to try disabling the antivirus and firewall (make sure that the windows firewall is also not running) and then surfing VERY SAFE SITES, while you test...

Yeah, I'm inclined to think your optimizer is at fault too.

many thanks for the inputs there,

i ran the optimiser months ago for the ethernet settings that was all, was just curious why the video/tv option suddenly appeared,

will try switching off the 3rd party firewall just to see if there is an improvement.

am i to understand there is just probably not enough umph in the system, hence the disruption when handling both at the same time?

does the system seem reasonable enough?

cheers

Its hard to tell really. The machine specs look generally ok, but I'm not sure whether the nvidia 5600 is a limiting factor.

It may equally be caused by some software on your machine that is adversely affecting performance. firewall, antivirus, network optimiser etc.

If you have run the ethernet optimiser it may have done the damage already and just removing it may have left duff settings in there. (ISTR an ex-user on here suggesting inappropriate settings at one time). I can't think of an easy way to get back to square one though.

My server box has a geforce fx5200 in it and doesn't give any problems viewing a recording whilst doing other stuff - it can't handle HD without stuttering though). I don't know the comparisons between my 5200 and your 5600 though.
