What does everyone use for remote control?

Up until last weekend I was successfully using UltraVNC with hook driver OFF - this would allow me to see the PVRX2 interface.

Now since updating video card, and running HDMI and 1920x1080 it seems to hang the system. I can keep the system stable by using the hook driver, but that doesn't show the pvrx2 window.

Any ideas? I've tried LogMeIn (Blank window) and Remote Desktop (Blank window).

Logmein works fine here, it works better than Ultravnc (with or without hook driver). I think most of the time I can see pvrx2 if the hook driver is off.
But it is a bit unpredictable.
Logmein works fine but it takes more time to connect.

I dumped ultravnc and logmein when I built my new pc on the basis that lless is more. I know only use remote desktop but it is far from ideal.

With vista I can't use the multiple-concurrent user hack that I had on XP and so my user is logged out from the server when I RDT in from my laptop. This then means either dragging my butt over to the server pc and entering the password again to login, or when I have finished in RDT, issuing a run, shutdown command to restart the server pc completely (assuming no recordings are in place).

No ideal but I cope....:-)

Strange, I tried logmein, but all I got from pvrx2 was the window border... so it was as useless to me as ultravnc with hook driver.

A mate of mine is using tightvnc, so I'll give that a go.

I tend to also use the RDP hack to start up a second session on the server, but that's for doing other filemanagement stuff when the mahcine is in use.

I primarily use the VNC connection for doing stuff while the wife is watching TV (and not the pvr) and so I don't have to get her to switch the tv to the pvr so i can see what I'm doing..

Its a pity that my new telly can do PIP while on hdmi showing TV, but not PIP while watching tv to show the HDMI connection, then this wouldn't be an issue.

WRT Logmein there are a lot of settings you can configure.
WRT Ultravnc: have you tried the java-applet? I think at my place it works better. You can use it from anywhere, you don't need the Ultra-vnc -viewer.

I used to use the commercial NetOp remote. It was the fastest thing I had come across, but I used to get occasion crash/burn when going into hibernate. There was an option to toggle that slowed it down a little but then supported viewing the PVRX2 interface.

I installed ultravnc as it seems almost as quick. Plus it is what sub uses to remotely control someone else's machine. I can't get a reliable PVRX2 remotely though. However, I don't use that much as I use PVRX2 as a client on the PC that I'm controlling it from anyway.
