Comskip timing with TS files and EDL

As you know, I am running the latest TS patch (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=38642), which did a great job fixing the timeline in SD TS recordings. Seems very stable now.

However, I am having an issue with Comskip timing. It is going to commercial skip about 30 seconds too early! The strange thing is the timeline dark bars seems OK. In other words, it is going to skip before the pointer reaches the dark bar indicating a commercial. If I backspace to before the commercial, and let it run, it looks like the pointer just hits the dark area when teh commercial starts.

Therefore, it would appear that COmskip is marking the commercial properly, and your timeline is displaying it properly. However, GBPVR is going into skip prematurely.

I have preferEDL enabled, and Comskip.ini shows true for creating EDL files. I do see edl in the storage location.

What logs might help? Or is this a known problem?

I can do some more testing, see if it is SD only, or if it includes HD.

yeah but if you go back into the black then press play it gets it right

No, it seems to be wrong all the time. If I go back before the black, to where teh show is still on, and press play, it will exit early again. If I press play within the black (already in commercial), it goes to near the end of the commercial, but seems to exit the commercial eraly too.

I did verify that it is happening on an HD channel as well.

An older show on an SD channel, a 1/2 hour show, seemd to be lined up better. Not sure why. Reported 720 x 540.

I was wrong, on both accounts.

First, teh TS patch did not work fully. When I first installed it, things looked real good. the timeline would come up right, and the commercials start at the black band (but GBPVR starts skip early).

BUT, now I had to reboot the system. Why I did not do so before, not sure. What does rebooting do? Not sure.

Now the timeline comes up at 45 minutes or so. Be the end of the show, it reads 1:03 and change, as expected. I'll put more thoughts int eh TS thread.

However, now the commercial black bands seem skewed toward the earlier half of the show slightly. GBPVR starts teh skip at teh beginnning of the black band, but the commercials don't start for another half to full minute.

So, something was out of synch before reboot, and now...

Probably related to the TS patch.

Now that it appears Sub has the timeline right, I am still having issue with Comskip. I am running GBPVR 1.3.7 with latest patch from http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...stcount=35. I am running Comskip 79_111.

I am attaching the Comskip outputs from NCIS. Lets look at one commercial. It should start at 21:02, but starts at 20:22 or so. It looks like Comskip found it at 122.75 (seconds, it appears). This is mid stream in the program, not even a scene cahnge. Most of teh commercials seem to be off like this.

I am using prefer EDL in GBPVR, and output EDL in comskip.

What else should I look at to see if skipping is occuring wrong, or if initial sensing is occuring wrong. I don't beleive it is the initial sensing. Can I review the file in something other than GBPVR to determine where the root of the proplbem is?

I re-ran comskip on the file, no change.

I think the next step here will be to time the actual run, and see if the problem is with GBPVR timeline or in Comskip. I tried that last night, but it kept skipping commercials even though I did not press play after backspacing. I'll have to disable Comskip feature in GBPVR to time things out. I'll let you know.

Please consider upgrading to Comskip 79_144 or even 80.007

Sorry about that. I think I have 79_143, I was looking at my downloaded files, looked in wrong place. Is tehre somewhere I can look at the actual exe to determine version?

I'll try upgrading to 80.007 tonight, and re-run the detect.

Loaded 80_007. Deleted old output files, re-ran. Same results, comercial at 1222 is cutting out about 40 seconds early. I'll try to time and explore a little more tonight. If I time w/ stopwatch from beginning, wiht skipping disabled, then I should be able to tell if GBPVR timeline is off, or if cuts are at wrong place.

I ran comskip gui for first time today. While I do not know everything about this, it does appear that the comercial break at the 1222 second point is in the correct place (about frame 36650). Not sure how to get timeline info (EDL) displayed in the GUI.

Is there a way to get GBPVR to use frame number instead of timeline (EDL)?

Followup question:

Does the latest version of GBPVR require EDL? I tried renaming the EDL file hoping that would force GBPVR to look in the text file (frame number). I remember way back (I think under DVR-MS) that we added EDL to solve some timeline problems. However, when I simply rename or delete the EDL file, no black bands show up at all in GBPVR. Do I need to turn off the "prefer EDL" in the config file for GBPVR, or is this no longer an option?
