I'm trying to find an alternative to Pinnacle's horrifyingly poorly designed TVCenter Pro, and GB-PVR looks like it would be great, but I'm having one really big problem. The TS files that it produces are unusable because they're so massive. I don't have several thousand terrabytes to hold them, so I tried to use the Autoconvert. The problem, though, is that I can't get it to do anything. I have it set to convert to Xvid ASAP and delete the TS files immediately following, but the TS files remain untouched and there are no avi files to be found anywhere. I don't really know what to say to give any hint as to why it's not working, but I'll post a picture of the settings in case I have something obviously wrong.

I'm not using the default directory for recordings, if that has any relevance. That's the only default settings that I've changed off the top of my head, other than configuring it to work with my TV Tuner (which is a Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro Stick, if that has any relevance). I'm also using Vista Home Basic.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me out with this... I can't stand Pinnacle's software and I'd hate to go back to it, and GB-PVR has such a great UI!

I know I haven't given a lot of information but that's mostly because I don't know exactly what information to give. If somebody could give me any kind of hint to tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd just really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Andrew

Well, uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have helped. It's converting something I just recorded right now. I'll come back if I have more problems, but at the moment it seems to be doing better.

In my case, I wanted to convert the Clar QAM HD TS to mpeg so that I could playback over my MediaMVP and didn't care if I lost resolution. Making the following changes to the config file (back it up before you change) worked for me. My changes were as follows:

Change:
Code:
<AutoConvertTSToFormat>TsToMpg</AutoConvertTSToFormat>

Add before </CustomFFmpegConversions> :
Code:
<Conversion name="TsToMpg" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -target ntsc-dvd -s 640x480 -acodec mp2 -ar 48000 -ab 224k -ac 2 {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".mpg" />

I doubt the Mpeg-2 is what you want (unless you are sending to a MediaMVP) but I found that with these settings, the TS file would get transcoded (with AC3 audio converted as well), the TS file would be automatically removed, and the .mpg file left in its place. Comskip would run and commercial skip seemed to work just fine.

What mux option are you using? If using 'Full TS' (which you shouldnt be), then you can get massive files. 'TS Mux' options are pretty much the same size .ts files as you'd get with .mpg or .dvr-ms muxes.

Oh... well, lesson learned Tongue Thanks for telling me that. That's one of the default options that I forgot I changed.

I found out that the problem, at least in my case, was Xvid (I think). The uninstall and reinstall changed nothing, it was the fact that I accidentally changed it to Divx and forgot about it. It worked, but unfortunately the audio and video were out of sync, so I changed it to WMV and I'll see how that works.

Thanks, if the WMV doesn't work out, I'll try that. I don't care about lost resolution either; I don't need high resolution to watch Seinfeld Big Grin
