The difference is a digital capture source vs analog capture source. See the 'recording source' setting on the screen behind it.

Thanks sub. Got it setup as per wiki.
What are the things I need to access my STB. My setup.... 1. STB connected via coaxial cable to my PC TUNER card 2. MCE remote 3. IR Server Do I need a BLASTER....I believe the BLASTER is something you buy and will blast the MCE remote CODES (translate by gbpvr per IR server) to the STB? Have I understood right? For my setup above, any recommendations on the BLASTER i should buy? Thx

The MCE remote receiver usually has two IR Blasters built into it. I'm fairly sure IR Server suite can control those blasters.

The version of MCE remote I have has only the receiver and does not contain the transmitter....Bummer....Need to buy one with receiver and a blaster.
Can somebody suggest (url) a MCE remote with receiver and blaster that will work with GBPVR and XP professional?

I have been using a USBUIRT (usbuirt.com) for a number of years with GBPVR. At one time it was controlling 3 set top boxes, one usefull feature is a output socket for an extra IR LED TX.

I am really confused..... The picture of USBUIRT does not have the transmitter - but only the receiver. Am I missing something? Can you please give me an explanation how this hardware is setup for PC, STB, receiver, transmitter, software works? I would really appreciate it. Right now, I have a MCE remote with receiver only - no transmitter, a dishnetwork STB, PC and installed IR SERVER software. Thx

The USBUIRT is a IR Reciever and Transmitter (blaster) in the one package it is supported by GBPVR. It is accessable via GBPVR configuration under the heading "remote control type" under the DVD tab. The unit is fully explained at usbuirt.com

Does your IR receiver have at least one headphone-type jack in the back? If so, I think you just need one of these:
http://www.smarthome.com/8170S/Mini-Stic...ers/p.aspx Or something from here: http://www.hometech.com/infrared/emitters.html If your receiver has 2 blaster jacks, and you end up getting an emitter, it may not work in port #1, people with XP have had problems with port #1. |
