I posted this in another thread but didn't have any luck getting answers/suggestions so I'm going to start a new thread to see if I can get anywhere with this issue:

I've been running GBPVR for a year without any major issues on my Win XP PC, so today I installed the latest build on my Win 2003 server in the hope that I could use it to schedule recordings (rather than leave my main PC running).

The entire install went flawlessly from start to finish - and it was only when I tried to run PVRX2 that I got the following message:

"Sorry, this system does not support the required VMR9 video render."

Having looked into this I can confirm I have DirectX 9 installed as well as the latest KLM codec pack. And I have tried changing the PVRX2.exe Video Render to overlay with the result that the PVRX2 window opens but nothing is displayed.

I have come to the conclusion that my graphics cad is sub par, which is logical since the card is onboard a mobo that is at least 5 years old. I'm hoping that I have a spare card in my junk box but in case I don't is there anything I can do to get PVRX2 to open so I can access the TV guide in order to set up recordings?

Many thanks,

Jeremy

use the web interface
last tab misc

you could try different drivers for your video card that sometimes works but since you are on 2003 server video and media may be a bit limited

Thanks for the tip stustunz. I got the web server working and the TV guide comes up ultra quick.

However when I try to record I get a "Recording Failed" message come up at the top of the popup.

Any hints on how to get it working?

that could mean many things post the logs after trying to select a recording
maybe a share issue you need to make sure that everything inside the gbpvr folder has open access

If you mean the log for GBPVRRecordingService.exe you'll find it attached. But if there are any web server specific logs I should be looking for then I'm afraid I can not find them.

If I've got it right you should be aware that while the last log entry is at 14:14pm I actually tried recording at 14:23pm which, for some reason, does not show up in the log. I am assuming that the 14:14pm entry marks when GB-PVR was initially loaded today.

When you say "gbpvr folder has open access" do you mean it should not be read-only? I've tried three times to remove the read-only attribute through Windows Explorer and each time I go back to the folder's properties the tick mark is still there (albeit in grey rather than black).

when you shared the folder you get the option "allow network users to change my files"thats what i am talking about
once shared you find it under the shared tab on properties tab

the read only thing has 3 states try it you will get something like clear grey and tick

you could also try turning off your firewall and try and set a recording if this works then you need to add permissions for the recording service and a few other ports have a look on the wiki it will tell you what to open

What folder do you mean when you say "when you shared the folder you get the option "allow network users to change my files""? The GPVR installation folder (\Program Files\Dbox2\GBPVR)?

I've not had any luck with ports and configuring the webserver passed it seeing what I've set up in PVRConfig. So I'm still at the stage where was was before - can't record Sad

I have installed an alternative graphics card (ATI Radeon 9200) but I get the same VMR9 renderig failure message.

I've done a lot of searching for answers and very few people seem to have this issue. I on't know if other Radeon 9200 users are able to use VMR9 or they just aren't trying to and haven't come acros the problem. One comment I did find was along the lines that the Radeon 9200 didn't work well with VMR9. This suggests to me that it does work in some capacity, but I can't get that far.

I wondered if perhaps my Win 2003 server wasn't up to scratch, performance wise. HEre are my specs:

AMD Sempron 2800 1.6Ghz
1 Gb RAM

That would appear to be sufficient.

I'm going tospend more time digging in the webserver support doumentation now.

yes the gbpvr folder has to be shared so that anybody on your network is able to change files
i had a 9200 for ages on my client machine and they are fine for SD playback
have you tried setting it to overlay(playback tab in config) to see if you can get the ui to show up
i had a 2800 sempron for ages only reason i changed was it crashed to often and i gave up trying different hardware till al that was left was the motherboard and cpu but it had no problems recording 3 things at once and playing back

another thing i would try is different drivers (older ones rather than newer ones)

what tuner are you using by the way i see a error in your logs referring to deboxrecorder plugin

maybe try removing that to see if it will get any further loading

also try this
To enable Direct X, you must first enable graphics acceleration. To do this, right click on the desktop and go to Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting, and set the Hardware acceleration bar to Full.

To activate Direct3D and DirectDraw (DirectX), go to Start/Run and type "dxdiag". Click OK. Click on the Display tab, then click on the Enable button for DirectDraw and Direct3

This worked and I can now see the GUI on the client (Win 2003 server). I found that it stil lwouldn't appear through XPs remote desktop connection but then I read that DirectDraw can't make it across the connection so I've installed UltraVNC and that works fine.

I think I'll have to ask you to take a look and tell me if this is set up right, because I can't see any options to "allow network users to change my files". I'll get a screenshot sorted out in a bit - for some reason UltraVNC is crashing on me today.

I've got a Nokia Dbox2. I think I've worked out what is creating the error - I hadn't mapped the EPG channels to the DBox channels. I'm in the process of doing this now. The handful I've already done seem to work in some respects and not in others, in that I can change channels but not view/record them yet. I'll wait until I've finished mapping them all before I explore this problem further.

Thanks for your help,

Jeremy
