I am currently running a Windows Home Server separate from my GBPVR server. The WHS has a internet domain name such as SRVR1.HOMESERVER.COM. So I can access this server across the internet and I would like to be able to have a link to my GBPVR EWA so I can schedule recordings easily when not at home.

I know that I can add a link on the WHS login page, but I am not sure how to point to the GBPVR server which does not have an external IP address or DNS service running on it.

Does anyone know how I could have a link on my external facing website to get to the EWA that is on my internal network?

Thanks in advance!

I just tried it myself using the Whiist addin. Do you have that addin? It works from my home computer, I don't have a way right now to access it from outside of my own network.

I had gotten the addin from here but I don't see it there now:

I do have the whiist add-on. You can find it here: http://www.andrewgrant.org/whiist I have been able to access it when on my local network by putting a link on the WHS. I would like to be able to reach it from outside my local network.

I am just not sure how to create a link that would work from the internet and reach into my local network.

I have tried mapping the gbpvr directory on the WHS and setting up a virtual directory pointing to that location. My gbpvr\web directory is what I mapped to the Z:\ drive on my WHS. I then created a virtual directory called gbpvr and set the default document to admin.aspx. I was hoping to navigate to https://srvr1.homeserver.com/gbpvr to get to the admin console.

I am not sure how to use a port number with a virtual directory. Do I need to open the port on my router for the WHS or for GBPVR?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I did the same thing and got to it from inside. I think a number of years ago I had opened a port on my router and got it to work from the outside (before I had WHS--directly to my GBPVR PC). I don't like to do that, also my router IP was changing back then every so often. I haven't tried getting to it from outside my router through WHS, I'll have to wait until I go to work on Monday.

Finally had a chance to try this at work. I can't get to my EWA either.
