Here's what I'm trying to do - watch high definition ATSC recordings on a client pc over a wired network.

On the server I am able to record and playback DRV-MS files flawlessly. It's truly wonderful. Smile I later learned that these files cannot be shared server/client. Sad

I tried to change my mux to MainConcept to end up with .mpg files that could be streamed over the network. I have had mixed results, but for the most part my server keeps hanging when I set it to record. That's a separate issue that I will need to posts logs for to see if I can fix it.

On a few occasions I have been able to record with the mainconcept mux, but when I try to stream these to my client pc I get blank screen or the client freezes up.

On one occasion I tried to watch live tv on the client and it worked. I tried to change the channel and the client froze up. (I'm including this to demonstrate that video and audio decoders seem to be working fine on the client. I am not interested in live tv over the network, just watching recorded programming)

The intent of this post is not to try to troubleshoot all these issues, but to find out if I am wasting my time or if this will all potentially work. I have yet to find a post where someone has all of this working well.

1. Is anyone successfully recording HD ATSC into mpgeg files? The way my server works with DVR-MS files is great and if I can get the same results with mainconcept or some other mux I will continue trying, but if not I think I will keep to my current setup and worry about a client setup when things are more worked out.

2. I have contemplated picking up a PCH as a client, but if I cannot get my server to function properly in any format except dvr-ms, would a PCH make any sense or would I have the same frustrations?

Sorry for the novel.

I am succesfully recording HD ATSC files into MPEGs and watching them on the client using the ATI mux. I also can record and watch them using TS Mux. TS Mux lets you do the multi-record stuff if you only have one tuner and if you are lucky to have a couple of channels on one transport stream. For the client, you can only use streaming with mpeg files but using file share, you can use other formats, like .ts files. Using file share I have stuttering/freezing on the analog mpeg files viewing live tv, but the HD digital channles in .ts are just fine live and recorded. You have to play with all of your codecs, file types and client method, but I think you can find something that will work for you. Every set up is a little different so there is not a single correct answer.

Keep posting and someone should help guide you. Good luck.

I tried the .ts mux and it works better on the server side than mainconcept did. It's still not quite like dvr-ms and it's getting hung up occasionally. However, when I try to watch them on the client (file sharing or streaming) I get a black screen for a couple of seconds and then I get returned to the main recording menu page. That would be a problem on the client side, right? Any ideas?

Also, is there somewhere I can get the ATI mux? The gbpvr mux page appears to be down.

You need to put it somewhere and register it. If you put it in the C directory it would be: regsvr32 "c:\THMpgMux(5.0.0.2022).ax" Change it for your path and the file you are registering.

I believe that if you are only interested in Recordings, and not Live TV, that you should be able to record in DVRMS mode on the server and watch them from a client. You need to set the client for file sharing mode, not streaming. The only limitation that I know of is that you will not be able to start watching a recording until it is completely finished recording (and all postprocessing is completed) since DVRMS files cannot be opened simultaneously from two computers.
