My HTPC is in the basement - connected to my other main gaming computer (non-HTPC) on a home LAN network. My non-HTPC gaming computer is connected to the internet - my HTPC is not. I know it's unusual to not have the HPTC connected to the net, but that will work best for me. Is there a nice way to get my gaming computer to download my tv listings, and then get them onto my HTPC through my network somehow? Perhaps in an automated way? I'm pretty stupid when it comes to networks, so any advice would be mucho appreciated.
S-Video out to NTSC TV
NF7-Sv.2 motherboard (SocketA) w/512 mb ram
XP-3000+ CPU - XP Home OS
eVGA fx5200 (video out)
PVR-250 (video in) - latest drivers
Nvidia DVD decoder (trial for now)

2 solutions:

1) You can configure your gaming computer as a gateway to internet. I think XP has built-in software for this. Then your HTPC connects to internet via the gaming computer

2) configure your gaming computer to download tvlistings to a local file (using xmltv). Put this file on a share that is accesible from your HTPC. Configure GBPVR to read this file for the tv-listings.

I guess the first solution is the nicest and easiest one.

Beautiful. Sounds like either way will be what I need. Now I'm off to do some 'net research on XP networking...

Thanks for the reply!

Are you using Dial up or Broadband? if broadband you must go the with an inexpensive router.  They can clone your PC's mac address so you shouldn't have problems with your internet connection.  If your using dialup you need to Internet connection share.

Routers are the simpliest thing on the planet to setup and you will have the added benifit of having a hardware firewall blocking most if not all your internet ports from external access.
