I have been using GBPVR for a few years now, and has always worked great. i recently set up another HTPC in a different room, and am attempting to get GBPVR installed in teh client congifuration. i think it is set up all good now, but i am having some issues. I can see all of the recordings on the server, but when i try to play one, i either just get a black screen that hangs up, or stuttering audio only. Also, if i try to acces the videos directly from the video library, the screen goes black for a sec, and then kicks me back to teh directory list. Any thoughts? i have tried playing teh videos over teh network with vlc and they play fine, just can't get GBPVR to play them.

You are going to have to try a variety of decoders to get it to work. You need to let us know if you are streaming or using file share and also what type of files you are watching.

hi, sorry for the lack of info in my previous post. I tried using both the streaming and the file sharing mode. i wanted to use the streaming mode if possible. oh, and i am using the newest version of gbpvr, 1.3.11. The files i am attempting to view are standard def tv recordings taken with an hvr-1600, so i think they are mpeg-2. what else do you need to know?

Sounds like you are missing a codec. I know the potential dangers of using codec packs, but I have had very good luck with K-Lite in XP. I also have found that it uninstalls pretty cleanly. My new client is Vista Ultimate and it plays analog TV recordings just fine with no added codecs required.

ok... i installed k-lite codec pack. i tried using the powerdvd mpg playback. it still won't play from teh recorded shows area. the screen just goes black and i can't get out of it unless i reboot. but, if i brows over to the file locations in teh video library, it will play that way. when is starts, i get teh windows sound like a new peice of hardware is attached to teh pc, but it does play. pvrx2 doesnt close cleanly after it plays. any ideas why it wouldn't play of teh recorded shows menu?

OK, using FFDSHOW codec couldn't do streaming, had to do file sharing mode. Now can play video from recorded shows area, but when I close out PVRX2 I get the Windows sound for hardware attaching, then the monitor says "no signal", and I have to physically re-boot. Any thoughts.

The only codecs I have installed on my laptop client are MPV and MPA from here. I can stream live TV, recordings and video library (SD mpegs).

It might be worth removing K-lite and trying those ones.

wierd, i installed the mpv and mpa codecs, as well as direct x 9c... it looks like i will be able to limp along, bu t it is still not perfect. i can only operate in file sharing mode. if i switch to streaming then the screen goes black and i have to reboot to recover when i try to playa video. also even in file sharing, it does not exit cleanly.... i get an error, and the windows background doesn't refresh right when the program closes. at least the screen doesn't go blank and say no signal. if i hit the desktop icon on teh quick launch bar, the desktop comes up an i can proceed... but it is still not 100%. any other thoughts?

oops... so it looks like i can play recorded shows now(with the issues described above still lingering), but when i tried to play live tv, the screen turn black, waits a few seconds, and then kicks me back to the menu. Any ideas why this would happen? is it because i am in file sharing mode and not streaming mode?
