As the title of this thread says, I can't seem to cleanly install the driver for my new 1600 card. I used the Setup program that came with the card and did an Install Drivers. It says that the drivers were installed successfully and i need to reboot. I then rebooted. I then get a Found New Hardware device.

My problem is that the HW Manager can't find the drivers. I tried pointing it to various directories that have worked for other devices but still no luck.

Can anyone tell me which directory I shold have the HW Manager look at to find the drivers.

I'd cancel the new hardware wizard and run HcwDriverInstall.exe from the CD or download instead.

If I remember right, my HVR1600 had some slightly out of the ordinary install instructions. I would re-read the documentation that came w/ your card and make sure you followed all the instructions perfectly.

Those instructions were pretty much useless.

I am at the point whewre I ran the HcwDriverINstall like sub suggested and then rebooted. When I run Config to add the card I was able to have it only list installed cards and the 1600 shows up but it then says the device doesn't seem to have drivers installed but it lets me select the EPG and save it.

However, when I go into TV Guide and record two programs concurrently and try to watch Live on a third it just exits and goes back to the Main menu.

Previous attempts wouldn't let me save the 1600 definition if it didn't find the driver so I think I'm closer but don't know how to gho the rest of the way.

I remembered that GBPVR records starting with Device #1 and Plays Live TV starting with Device #3. I don't have to bother recording something to see if all three cards are working. All I have to do is try Live TV.

I did try Live TV with no recording going on and it has a black screen briefly and then goes back to the menu.

UPDATE: Windows Device Manager does not show any problems with any of the devices.

Any suggestions on where I went wrong?

You only have one HVR1600, so it should be set as device #1. You only increase the device number when you have multiple devices using the same driver.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

With two simple sentences you solved my problem and made me understand what was happening. I just tested it by recording two programs and watching a third simultaneously.

You ended over 5 1/2 hours of frustration and wondering whether I would have to return my card.

I had thought that the Device # was just an arbitrary user defined way to assign an order to using the cards for which to pick next for recording or for Live TV. This is something that should definitely go into the wiki.

The order of the tuners in the config app determines their priority - top down for recording, bottom up for LiveTV.

I had understood that (see my message #6 above). I thought that the user could assign whatever order they wanted to the devices. What I didn't understand was that there could, and in some cases (like mine), should be more than one Device #1.
