Ok, the setup.

1 capture card (Hauppauge 2250) on windows vista business with newest GB-PVR.

Card has only 2 tuners (both analog and digital capable).

My system is currently recording three digital streams.

Life, Lost, and American Idol.

All three are on at the same time, and I can watch the entire first 35 minutes of each (thats how far they have progressed so far).

I cant explain it, maybe someone else can?

This could only be expained with multirecording which would allow you to record with one tuner every channel that is on the same transponder, you might find that 2 of the 3 channels are one the same transponder allowing you to record them only using 1 tuner, leaving the other to record the other channel and you would have 3 going at the same time

Since sub implemented the multirecord feature i am able to record 4 digital channels at one time using 2 tuners

hope this sheds some light

Ok. That makes sense. Course, it never happened to me before, but since I have never missed any of these shows I get the feeling one of them slipped a timeslot.

-Edit Below-

Going to put this to the test. Have a program that has always been in "conflict" that I could move to a channel I believe is on the same transponder. It no longer shows as a conflict, so with any luck I won't need to get that extra tuner I have been eying.

So, how would you know if the channels are on the same transponder? This sounds like it might only apply for Satellite TV - and not for OTA?

Load config, under capture source, select one tuner and hit edit, look at the Tuning request column

Sting will look something like

T:108,0,0~P:3~V:2112~A:2113~PMT:49~PCR:2112~N:>4.2 WRC-2* (000(AC3))

In my case i have several channels listed under 108 if you have channels that strat with the same numbers like the one in red they are on the same transponder, but this is highly unlikely for OTA, mostly QAM cable

In theory it works for any digital source. In practice, it's great for satellite and cable but not much use for OTA. At least for ATSC; I have no knowledge of DVB-T. This is because while cable and satelitte might have up to a dozen differnt channels on one frequency, ATSC rarely has more than 2 or 3, and for the most part there's never anything you'd want to record on the sub channels. So far I've left multi-record off, and I've yet to have a conflict that could have been resolved with multi-record enabled.

With DVB-T in the UK, with 3 dual tuners (nova-t-500's) you could record all 26 or so terrestrial channels simultaneously. On satellite they are not so conveniently arranged.

Just out of curiosity but could a hard drive handle 26 recordings at once, my guess is probably not, but thought i would ask, not that i even have the that at my disposal

I have my doubts, but have never had enough tuners to try it.
I should be able to get 5 in my test machine and if I'm feeling bored one day I'll give it a try.

Wow, nice. I've got about 23 useful channels (ie, speak english, have actual programming on instead of 24-hour infomercials and shopping), but they're spread over 12 different frequencies. So even with multi-record it would take a whole lotta tuners to get them all.

One station here recently added a useful sub-channel with somewhat-recent movies, and as I just added a terabyte recording drive I'm starting to record more stuff just because I might watch it. So there's starting to be more potential for multi-record in my setup. I think when GB-PVR 1.4 comes out I'll enable multi-record on the off-chance it will get used.
